HI all, first post here. I currently edit on a mac pro with FCP CS4. The production company I work for wants to do a full feature film and use Red one or Scarlett cameras. What is the recommended components to have that will handle the editing and rendering of the footage.
A list would be great. I am researching what is needed. I believe the budget will be covered by investors. Any suggestions on where to start from the ground up. I am not up to date on the newest, best equipment and I need to know what is available.
Computer?
Editing Disks? Storage? Backups?
Editing Software?
I am not sure what else to ask about.

Eh...

Eh...

I'd suggest you read a few of the FAQs the smart guys have posted over in the workflow and the general discussion forums. These questions have been asked a bajillion times. And we haven't had a shortage of answers either ;)

BTW Scarlet's formats haven't been finalised. We don't know yet how it's footage will do in the editing room.

I figured.

I figured.

I will look over there soon. If you know where the answers are could you point out a few of the posts with a link to the thread? Thanks.

Well, just Editing red isn't too complex.
You're going to want a new mac pro, a raid of some kind (nothing to serious as R3D files only require around 40MB/sec read speed.)
A 4870 (at least) graphics card..
a decent amount of ram(12GB to be safe)...

storage again is not dependent on speed as film scans are, but something with enough storage is obviously necessary...

Final Cut should be fine.. I won't go into the details of the multiple ways there are to transcode/work with R3D media but this form is full of answers.

Best of luck!
