  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Speed Racer-1st stills

Regarding the look, could it be this "video game" aesthetic? Where kids are growing up playing more PlayStation than TV or cinema and are used to that synthetic look and aren''t bothered by it.

The two plane visual style of actor in foregound and rest of scene in background does kind of link with the animation style of the original.

Apart from the actual story (which looks a tad stupid), the main thing bugging me is that these two planes don' t match, the actors in foreground look too real, compared to the acid trip CG backgrounds. Would have been good if the could have added an effect, or stylized somehow, the actors to blend better with the rest of the scene.

I hope this is just down to temporary composites.

You know, after seeing the 720p trailer, I actually think it's gonna be visually stunning. Can't comment on the story, as I didn't grow up watching the cartoon, but the look of the movie is definitely bold. Very stylized, and I think it looks a lot better in motion than these stills suggest.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. At least for now.

Where is the 720p trailer?

This looks really bad, IMO. The only cool parts of trailer were a handful of shots on those twisty race tracks. The acting and dialog look atrocious.

Was it F23? And infinity focus was done how? Composite? Thought it was going to be amazing. It looks ridiculous.

man.

I'll predict it's an improvement over Matrix Reloaded but that's saying very little. Then again it's a kid's flick I'm sure it will make decent money.

I wasn't watching for "hey look at that asian guy in the back" the first time either. But so many shots were so spectacularly bad that asian guy got picked up in the second pass where I went looking to see what made me "feel" like the compositing was terrible.

Like I said. I'm optimistic that these are all still roughs rushed out to please marketing (just like the first King Kong teaser) but there is also a long history of movies where their deadlines didn't end up giving them enough time even for the final and that's as good as it got. *cough* Spy Kids 1 (which I actually really enjoyed despite the awful vfx...)

color grading is amazing look ..which visual effects studios were done ?:excl:

I'm disgusted from an audience standpoint. I wouldn't want to watch it in the first place.
