Hi TCHChad, can you please elaborate on digital workflows your camera house is offering.

Hey Chad!

Glad to see you on REDUSER.

I've known the guys at TCH for quite awhile now, and have watched them grind out the workflows when nobody else wanted to and under all kinds of insane pressure from A-list people.

They were an early adopter of SCRATCH, and own two SCRATCH systems - along with a ton of other gear - at a time when SCRATCH was still a pretty new kid on the block.

As far as digital workflows go, they work hard, they know their sh&t, and anybody doing digital cinematography could benefit from their knowledge. Chad's a great guy and knows more about cameras than just about anybody I know.

Best,

Lucas

Good to know!

From the camera house side we're offering lens and equipment support. We've already worked with several red projects in this manner.

On the DFC side. We're currently still in the development phase of some aspects, but pretty much we're offering the same set of services that we extend to our customers using the S.two workflow ie transcoding red footage into final cut and avid in a file based timely manner, archival to LTO-3 for vaulting, and selects pulls for vfx to final color. We also currently have two full scratch systems that we've used on several features and multiple commercials.

A lot of the decisions to be made in this process quite honestly overwhelm most productions. We're hoping to provide both the gear and post consulting services that let a project get through with a workflow that here in hollywood production is anything but standard.

So far the projects I've heard of going Red have always been pioneering ie willing to do it in a true file based accurate manner. Whats worrying is the general inconsistency that can be applied to productions when speed is put over quality and hacks are instead used. I have a little bit of a nightmare when I think of someone laying off to HDCAM-SR from final cut with realtime Redcode low quality, and then some poor guy has to do either a hand conform back to redcode or gets stuck keying something thats in reality a 1k proxy with the color depth of a 15 year old jpeg.

I can safely tell you the general level of knowledge in post needs to go up to be able to deal with Red, we're going to be there to help.

Thanks Lucas. Nice to see you too.

WOW. You guys get it. You really fucking get it!

This is exactly how business should evolve. I'm watching the dinosaur rental companies around here that are still pissed if an AC buys his own Bartech, or a DP buys his own lenses. Becoming a Service/Knowledge company has much longer legs to it than just a building with gear on the shelf. Gear is gear, but brains will keep you in the game much longer.

Bravo!
