What would be practical back-up solution for the RED? I'm looking at, after recording, backing up to harddrives... but I'd like some sort of tape library system also..... so I have a bunch of harddrives with back-ups plus a tape library with all the data on system. I was looking at the Dell PowerVault TL4000 Tape Library. Do you think that's a decent option for me to go with? I was also looking at the Dell PowerVault ML6000.

Hi AlienFX,

Tape is most certainly the only way to go. LTO-3 is at a good pricepoint right now with the emergence of LTO-4 dropping prices.

Your storage requirments will determine what it the best loader for you to buy.

I have a 24 cartridge powervault LTO-3 with fibre as well as a Sun 16 cartridge LTO-3. Both are excellent units although the powervault is much quieter, as well as fibre, which is handy.

Cheers,
Seth.

We use the Quantum 600A LTO3 drive. It is network attached (ethernet), so you an attach to a mac or pc and use a simple java gui - we just love it.

Yes, it is lto-3, however they make an SDLT version as well. We've been using the lto version for quite a few months now and because it's ethernet based, it makes switching it over to different systems a breeze. It's a very useful drive.

Hi Guys!

Regarding Quantum LTO3 (ethernet based), can you direct me to any place y can buy it, we tried to get in touch with quantum but got no response.

Thanks in advance

Best regards

Dario

Hi Dario,

I could help you if ou were in Australia, but I don't have any contacts in your area, sorry !

I think google might be yur best bet in this case :) Good luck !

Seth.

Dario,

I would try and call the Quantum sales department in California (949) 856-7800. They should be able to help you out. When we bought ours, they simply sent us to their local dealer in our area. For south america, they may sell directly to you.

Hi!

Thank you both, Seath & Jeremy.

I'll call Quantum directly, to see how can i get one.

Just for the record, what is the model of the drive, could it be:
Quantum TC-L32BC-EY ?

Best Regards

Dario

Dario,

Call Custom Supply Inc and ask for BJ:

http://www.mediasupplystore.com/

I just got my 600 LTO drive from them today at an incredible price -- way below MSRP. They are really fantastic with their service and incredible prices. The one thing you need to know about buying the Quantum drive is that once you get a price quote from a seller and they "register" you as their customer, other retailers are not allowed to sell to you. Crazy, I know. Anyway, call BJ at Custom Supply and tell him I referred you. Good luck!

Peter
