  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED "Ninjas" are not affiliated with RED the company

It is the RED Ninjas, the GibCors, the offhollywood's (and many more - i am a fan of ibloom/kosmos/digital fx/crewpix/adobeone, etc. etc. etc. etc.

speaking of reduser All-Stars, whatever happened to Haakon? did he just receive his RED and then disappear into a vapor of ecstasy or something?

We'll keep buying RED One cameras, and I would expect us to own a collective 10 or more REDs by early 2009.

LOL It's on, now...

The Ninjas see your 10 RED's and raise you 5.... That's 15 RED's by sundown tonight!

But we're not stopping there..... I've been working day and night, night and day .... ahhhh you get the idea, to arrange for the Ninjas to have 100 RED's by December 25th.

That's right it's going to be a very Merry RED Christmas at my house this year. I am having a stainless steel Christmas tree built as we speak. I'm going to hang all 100 of the Ninjas RED cameras on the tree and do a live pod cast so all my REDuser friends from around the world can share in the Red Holiday Cheer.

Gibby, I'm sending you a invitation to attend this RED letter day in person... Because The REDNinjas want to share all the RED Love there is the world with the #1 RED head.... that's you buddy.

Peace on earth and good RED will to one and all :-)

I think I'd like to be a REDUSER moderator. Is there pay involved? I will work for whatever a grip gets paid ...

Har... You can have my moderator hat and all the pay that comes with it. :)

Brook has the sweet set up though... REDUSER moderator and RED NINJA. Lucky guy. I'm sure he's worth a lot, maybe even as much as $150/day.

oh shit, did I stumble across the new craigslist? When I get my Red, all I'm shooting are student films for no money... My landlord accepts copy/credit anyway so its alllll good.

i think most of the guys that have cameras now and are providing an excellent service to their clients and continuing to get repeat business, will eventually find a sweet spot of clients, cameras and employees/affiliates. there will be plenty of work out there once the knuckleheads get their faces out of the sand and face up to the fact that this is real.

if 1 in 100 is the number of cameras for sale as we have seen, then 5 more will come up in the next few weeks, i predict the actual number will be 10 more and that will continue until production has caught up in a year or less.

this really reminds me of the internet circa 1994. you remember, there were constantly articles in the geek mags ( i am a geek so i read them) about the number of fortune 500 companies that have websites. as the years progressed the numbers increased until 100% saturation.

i am not saying red will have 100% saturation, but episodic, features, commercials, music videos, non fiction cable; it will be fun to watch the market penetration numbers increase month by month..hopefully someone will track that stuff, i am assuming it will happen here.

as for the red ninjas, as i said great guys, i have already hired brook once and would do it again in a heart beat. but only after i am booked.

So if Brook is a moderator... and as a moderator he is also a red ninja... does that mean he can dissapear this thread if he doesn't like it? :sorcerer:

Isn't it like being that pakistani leader who is both president and army chief at the same time?

I'm still here. :-)

My hands have been rather tied shooting RED since I received it, though most of what I've been shooting has been for other clients and unfortunately I can't post/don't have much of the footage. It's pretty much the same thing that happened to LART; the event was postponed because the guys behind it had paid work to do and we're just fortunate to be able to make our livings this way!

I'm actually in the middle of some cool 35mm vs. RED tests at the moment and I will be more than happy to share the footage with the community when they're finished. I'm making both a DVD and Blu-ray version of the results for people to see in hi-def at home if they want.

The ninja thing is funny... but I think it's working for them how they want it to. Evin and Brook don't even own RED cameras, and yet they've been able to play with them just as much as anyone. That's pretty cool. Completely by coincidence, I bumped into both of them at Clairmont this evening and I remarked that Evin has probably seen more of Sam's camera than Sam has! He just chuckled and said, "you're definitely right about that!" :weight_lift:

In response to your question, though, I guess I feel like too many ninjas can spoil the soup and over the last two years I've gotten a little frazzled by the constant hype hype hype. Don't get me wrong - the camera definitely lives up to the expectations. RED is amazing. Maybe I'm just more complacent now that I have my camera? Haha, I dunno. I'm just more focused on working on individual projects that I'm really into than taking a flashy, omnipresent approach. I bought a RED because I love to shoot and this is more or less the first time I've felt that I don't have to make any compromises because of my gear when I want to create. That's a pretty big deal. So I'm kinda just enjoying going out and shooting with it than being the biggest "RED Rockstar" or whatever.

I am still super happy to talk to anyone about this camera or discuss its pros and cons for a particular shoot with those who still have questions... I've actually been as much of a RED consultant lately as anything as the demand is really starting to grow. I get phone calls from all over the country (and even across the ocean) from people who want to know the lowdown on how the camera really performs. My only regret is not reserving more than one camera at the beginning!!

outstanding!!...exactly where i hope to be in january when my two new REDs are given the breath of life..

enjoy your camera.

Yes ! Lovely. Will you be charging for it...? I'd pay for it. Between you, Claudio, and Lart we should be getting a good array of opinions (and footage).

Cheers, mate.

ps - i've noticed some of the regular posters have gone off shooting and are 4K fanatics , so much that they've neglected their forum duties, hehe  It's sort of like a mate who's newly enamoured with his new paramour and he leaves his other mates to f*** like a bunny. Can't blame you for being preoccupied, hehe.

Me and Billy Summers are starting the Red Samurai. There will be a Ninja/Samurai battle in 2008. We have T-shirts.

Watch out for the Red Kahunas here.

One of the things I'm hoping is to be able to contribute some nice footage from this shoot into the collective pool, and that's one reason I specifically chose this test as my first personal project. I didn't want to overlap with what is going on at LART, and I know there are a lot of people out there clamoring for the chance to see how RED stacks up next to film. In some ways, doing a "film vs. digital" test really is apples to oranges, so I realize going in that people will take issue with certain things from the very beginning. That's fine, I accept it; this is going to be a "real world" test and just one person's results... you'll be free to take them or leave them. That being said, I think positive, active discussion is a healthy thing and I can't wait to see what comes of it. I really have no bias invested in this at all... who knows, maybe I'll fall in love with film all over again...

I will unfortunately have to charge for the discs - especially because the hi-def ones aren't cheap to make - but I will of course make footage available online and will do my best to answer everyone's specific questions about the results. Tomorrow is a 7am - 12am shooting day (yes, 15 hours!), so I really ought to be sleeping. But eesh... this is like Christmas, I can't seem to catch a wink!! :sorcerer:

Good luck Haakon ;)

Real world tests are exactly what i'm looking for, and consider me preordered for the dvd (don't have a sony player)

cheers, mate.
