silicon imaging offer a now a mini camera, it is more a part for 2k people and guys with 16mm film look (2/3 look).

www.siliconimaging.com

they say nothing about the price, don't know if it could be a smaller alternative like the red-one.
and i think they have stolen the idea now to have a silicon imaging forum, and they got also a own raw-code.

for me it seems like they are afraid now. they even have could thougt before for customers feedback.

okey guys, that was just the information i liked to part with all of you redusers

p.s.: sony got an prototype called sony f35 with 35mm chip size, but how i now, and not sure in that, its only 1080p

wow. SI looks like an old tank...

I've tested one. It's heavy as hell, looks like a panzer tank and hehe got a windows OS that you record through. But it gives a really nice picture and it's very handy on riggs and so on, cause you can pick the tiny camera off the big body and then it only weights like 9 pounds. But it had some serious software problems when I tested it.
I hope the red one doesn't have that when I can lay my hands on one

the full version is not heavier than the RED and it indeed makes a nice picture.
They have in no way stolen any idea, in fact the first prototypes have been out in '06.
Not making any advertisement here, but that statement is just BS.
The RAW codec they work with same story: It is Cineform they are using, they did not steal any idea, nor did they program themselves.
They took available software and were able to use it more than one year ago.

SI has a number of partners. Cineform is one. Iridas is another - SI has a very well developed color pipeline that uses Speedgrade (a version of which is directly integrated into the camera software, which is itself very advanced and useful) to create look files that are attached to the Raw clips via metadata. In fact, their color pipeline is something that thus far Red has only hinted at. Of course, at the same time, it should also be pointed out that the SI is 2K in a 2/3" chip, while the Red is 4K in a 35mm sized chip, thus providing some significant differences.

It is somewhat presumptuous to accuse another manufacturer of "stealing" good ideas, especially when they actually implemented them first.
