  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New 16 GB Cf on market...

Nice find!I have been googling for 16gb 300xcf cards and the only thing that ever comes up are the press releases for the pqi 16gb, but no where to buy them. I wonder if pti really has these in stock. Hopefully they pass Jim's cf test for true write speeds. Okay who wants to be the guinea pig?

Nice. I've got one 8GB now I love!

Awesome. OK, I know who I'm calling on monday morning.

I thought that Jim, or someone else at Red, had said that you needed a CF card with a speed of 300X or better. Isn't that higher than 38.7MB?

Oh and also if you're shooting 2K windowed wouldn't you get about 60min on a 24GB cf card?

The biggest problem with CF specs is:

1st- they need to be real (many are inflated)
2nd- they need to sustain the write speed (many don't)

We see CF cards all day long that we get excited about, test... then have move on. Many just don't live up to their billing.

Jim, are you close to offering us 16gb? I thought originally by now we'd have them. It sure would be nice to get a 10-12 min run of 4k on one card!

If a card is truly 300x then it would be 44MB/s, the translation is roughly 0.1465. So 300 times 0.1465 gives you 43.95MB/s. As Jim says many don't have what they actually state or they have it in the Read capabilities but not in the write.

Yes shooting 2k would give you just under 60min.

PQI's aren't that great for Write speeds unfortunately, they have 45MB/s Read but only 22.5MB/s write. I'd avoid these unless you can pick up a test model, but I doubt they will be good enough.

Sony's CF cards offer some of the best write speeds. Do you think they'd do a bulk deal for RedUsers :)

We have a 16GB CF card in development... and a 32GB. Pretty soon...

Jim

Why would you spend time developing 16GB cards if the 32GB is close? ;-)

There is a premium (dollars per GB) for the 32GB, just as there is for a 16GB vs. an 8GB. Plus, the 32GB will follow the 16GB by about 3 months.

Jim

Jim, have you considered shipping 4K and 2K option CF cards? The current 32GB CF cards hitting the market would be good enough for windowed 2K as would the 16GB's that have been around for a little while. If nothing else they'd be good for the B4 Lens mount market as they could shoot for an hour and 15 minutes of footage. I'm thinking lightweight setups for sports events etc.
