  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Carbon Fiber or Aluminum ??

Hi,

I had some Carbon Fiber ski poles explode, well 3 sets to be precise, always happens off piste on a glacier when it's really cold. Oakley sunglasses survived I am pleased to say.

Hi,

That sounds fine with a fully laden Red.

Hi,

Yeah you'd be hard pushed to kit it out so it weighed too much to be honest. 6.6 to 77.2 lb's is a fair bit more than typical setups. Many people will be getting along with around half that.

at the Silverado seminar they had both of their Reds on them ... IMO -excellent head/sticks .... no problem handling a full studio rig with the largest zooms ...
i'd go for a smaller head/sticks for run n gun ...

I would like to ask you something. I rushed and got my self a Ronford Baker 2000 Series Tripod 2004-176. Do you have any experience with them? I only worked with Sachtler 18 and 20.
Thanks

PS there is very few informations about those sticks on internet.

I would definately prefer the carbon rods. If you trade out 2 x 12" and 2 x 18" steal rods for carbon, you are going to save 2lbs or more.

As long as you don't compress them to an extreme, or bash them with a hammer they should be fine. They sure won't fail from shear stress, even with a long lens.

1030HD heaven

I have the O'Connor 1030HD with the Cartoni A303 legs - I am very happy with the light weight and have had no problem with the various riggings I have done so far. I shot over in Hawaii with the Sachtler Cine 30 and it was a monster to haul around, but very nice for shooting surfers with the 300mm on - tres stable.

Hi Albert,

I haven't used it I'm sorry to say, I looked at one a short while ago. Ronford Baker are proper old school heads, very similar to O'Connors in my mind. They both have that look of being made 10 or 20 years ago yet outperform many of the "modern looking" counterparts.

I'd have thought it would be better than the two sachtlers. The maximum load is 20kg/44lbs if memory serves correctly so it has the same maximum load as the 18, the 20 is 25kg/55lbs, but it should be smoother and of course has the greater tilt range. The RB's look indestructable compared to the Sachtlers.

Sorry I can't help any more than that. Frankly if it feels good to you that's all that matters though, pretty much any head can be made to do the job as it were and all 3 are fully capable of handling a kitted out RedOne.
