Check the file size -- on my first download attempt I only got 1.1GB and saw the same error as you. Actual size is 1.9GB. My second attempt worked. Note that Safari uncompresses automatically, so you never see the .gz file once the download is complete.

Hmmm, I think your file might be corrupted or incomplete then. I suggest you try downloading again.

I don't have the original gz file here any more so I can't tell you its exact size. This might give you a hint if it's an incomplete download. It was about 1.95 GB if memory serves...

....that's exactly the size. 1.95gb....but i'm going to try another download....only 5 hours more.....
Thanks for the assistance....I'll be back then with hopefully a succesful story.

John....i'm using safari....so would i then just double click or drop to expander? or have to manually add an extention...I see exactly what you wrote---so i will take it that once downloaded it should expand on its own?

saludos,
only 7 hours that is.....

I also use Safari and it didn't expand automatically. Maybe ".gz" is not considered a "safe" file by Safari. But the file name should be "CTL_Trailer.mov.gz" including the ".gz" extension. So no renaming should be necessary. And double click should do the trick.

BajaProductions,

It sounds like you got a corrupt file. Strange if you did if you successfully extracted it from the .gz file.

Guys, gnu zip (gzip) is integrated into BSD/OSX, there is no need for Stuffit Expander or other third-party tools. Depending on your settings in Safari or whatever you're downloading with, the .gz archive may automatically be opened and the .mov file extracted for you when downloading completes. If that's not the case, and you're sitting there with a .gz file, then simply double click on it and you can access its contents.

Jim et all, Thanks for providing this, and for spending the time to do a fantastic 1080p compressed version.
It really looks amazing!
(although I have to say that I still have a problem with the look of the shutter:tongue: But that should have evolved a bit from what we see here right?)

Jeff,
I'm on my fourth download now....got booted off a few times before 1.95gb. However another question. Could this also be due to the fact that I only have FCP version 6.01 ? I loaded (last week) FCS 2, but never got if fully loaded since I forgot a disk at my office---i'm out of town in my mex. office....but i did seem to get updated from version 5 to 6. Anyway, the disk I was missing was some sort of additional audio disk 2...BUT point is that I now am at the latest version of FCP...so it seems. BUT might that be an issue? since i was not able to load many of the other features beyond the FCP disk.

Thanks for the help. still downloading...and also downloaded latest FCP updates with a re-boot....will see if this works. Otherwise I await a single disk that I can't get to for a week.

Sincerely...Johnny

Laguun,

I have to say yours was the most clear and concise response to all the FCP zealots in the world who have fallen for Apple's marketing hype without truly researching the market and tools available to them.

And English is your second language.

I have grown weary of the number of amateur filmmakers who ask "Are you cutting on FCP?" Every tool has its place but let's be very clear what each can and cannot do. And, more importantly, what you actually expect to do with the tools available.

Michael

Jeff,

Wow. I'm sorry about that. There seems to be an unusually high percentage of dropped downloads on both my hosting locations. Not sure what's going on, but both are showing about 8% failure rate. I'm still looking into it.

Could this also be due to the fact that I only have FCP version 6.01 ? I loaded (last week) FCS 2, but never got if fully loaded since I forgot a disk at my office---i'm out of town in my mex. office....but i did seem to get updated from version 5 to 6. Hmmm... I don't know. Does everything else in FCP appear to be functioning properly? It's possible that something didn't get installed, but I was thinking that FCP was all on one disc in the set. I don't have the discs in front of me at the moment to look at which disc you're talking about that got missed.

Try the updates, restart, see if that helps. After downloading, you should have the CTL_Trailer.mov.gz file and the size should be 2,098,434,663 bytes. Extracted out of that will be the CTL_Trailer.mov file and its size will be 2,165,774,164 bytes.

For anyone downloading it, the GZ file's MD5 checksum is:

ac 96 b2 37 82 8b ec 46 df 25 3b a6 a2 ae 29 9d

The extracted MOV file's MD5 checksum is:

42 11 86 fb be 1d 00 df 06 e0 74 a4 d5 0d e2 0b

If anyone is unable to play the MOV file but wants to make sure it's not due to corruption, that should help verify it for you.

HTH

Paul

I managed to download successfully from Jeffs link on the 4th attempt; kept dropping out before completing the download, I also tried the mirror but took twice as long as Jeffs original link of about two and a half hours and still dropped out. But hell it was soo...oo, well worth the wait. The prorez 2K is amazing! Thanks Jeff and Red!

yeah yeah but is it H264 PC friendly?..
