So I DMT'd a music video two weekends ago and all went well. But I began to rethink my workflow and how I told the editor he could edit the _M proxies and I would just open the EDL and change them to _H. I had done some testing and was able to grade the red proxy files in Color, but is this full Sensor Quality? 10bit 444? I then began reading the white paper and seeing how you had to do a log and transfer from the beginning. I was reading some posts on people drinking lots of alcohol while trying to figure this out, and although I like a good drink time is short and I have a large amount of school projects to complete as well. So my question is....
Whats the best way to take Red proxies and bring them to a 10bit 444 online file for color? Since there is an _H on the end of the files I can't use log and transfer? Should I go through the edited video right click each clip reveal in finder and then write that down use log and transfer and bring those clips in, and change the names of the original timeline proxies to not have a _H and try relinking? Any suggestions? This may make me seem unwise of the RED workflow but I thought Crimson would be in the mix. Boy was I wrong

You can import the edl (that used the proxies) into color and Color will automatically re-link to the R3D, scaling 4K down to 2K. You can also use the 'send to color' function of FCP and then run the program 'Color Fixer' from Hans to get rid of possible loop-bug issues.

So in short, no you don't have to re-do the log and transfer, Color relinks from the proxies to the R3D automatically.

But is that proxy file 8bit or 10bit? When I did that workflow last week I wasn't sure how to check a files bit information. Also after I exported an EDL from Color and rendered the media when I opened it in FCP the timeline had gaps between the clips and the clips seemed to shift from the original timeline? Anyone else had this problem?

Also where can I find Color Fixer? Or is that just opening the EDL and changing from _M to _H with find and replace?

Is log and transfering files native the same as importing the proxy files from the rdc folder?

No.

If you do L&T with native format, you are accessing the R3D files natively.
