  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Recording to SSD, CHEAP RedRam and/or Epic/Scarlet medium?

Things are getting better and faster.
It'll be great if Red gave us a sata port on the Epics.
What's the sataII port max speed

Good find Shawn, very Impressive ! I wonder how redcode 225 will play with these ?

Most MLC based SSD drives are generic and are built on a JMicron controller with Samsung MLC NAND flash memory. In most cases, they have very little cache compared to their SLC counterparts. It is suggested the cache on MLC based SSD drives is as little as 256KB.

MLC also has latency problems when small random files have to be written to the drive

Why won't Red publish the specs of the reddrive port so 3rd parties can make their own Redram and Reddrives?

Yes the JMicron controller is not a hit, and often have hang ups. ...BUT some new SSD are coming out now with 2 JMicron controller chips in a raid-0 set, and then they rock :)

Here is a paper

Well... If I was running a business, and then I spent what would be at least $85,000 - $100,000.00 (most likely a lot more) to get the REDRam drives up and running, and then of course into production, I'm not sure it would be smart of me to say, "Oh by the way, in case anyone wants to make what I'm making, only do it for less forcing me to lower my margins, HERE'S ALL THE INFO!! Enjoy!"

In the end they are a business. I expect they will keep some things close to the chest. If they didn't, then there would be no RED.

No matter how you cut it, RED has spent an amazing amount of money getting this thing up and running.

I'm sure they have made a lot of money, but I'm also sure they have spent a lot as well. And no matter who you are, it's going to be a slower than usual year.

Hey, I definitely want Red to make money hand over fist. That's good for all of us in the long run.
