I had all of my Nikon's and ZF lenses fitted with 80mm fronts by Duclos lenses in Socal. I now want to add an 80mm screw in polarizer but am having a hard time finding one in that size since most are 82mm. Any ideas?

I believe the outside diameter is 80mm, while they are threaded for 77mm filters -- the most common standard for photo filters.

While I did not run across them in the cine world, they are highly regarded in the profesional still camera industry. Friends who shoot large format (4x5 and 8x10) swear by them. When I was grading filters back when I found the Hoya brand to be very consistent in quality. I believe over the years Tiffen has improved their quality control. A little trick that can tell you a lot about the surface quality (planoism (flatness) and parallelism) is to hold the filter at an oblique angle and look at the reflection of an overhead flourescent light fixture with the cover off of the light. If the tubes don't look bent the filter is plano (flat) and if the two images from the two surfaces basicaly overlap the filter is opticaly parallel. This is a very sensitive test. Almost as good as looking at the bounce back from an autocollimator.
