I currrently have a red 1 #1150 with adapters for Canon FD and EOS mounts.
Perhaps my mounts will also adapt to the Epic. or perhaps RED will nail the early aftermarket folks by making the camera so that these 2 mounts by KmuseKevin and Eric Birger, cannot be adapted to the EPIC, and market their own Canon adapters. In either case a strange thing will happen if I upgrade to the Monstro FF35 with a 24/36mm sensor size.
My old set of Canon primes in FD mount will work fine but my newer EOS lenses will not necessarily work as for instance the Canon 17/55 2.8 zoom and I quote the Canon brochure: "Note! Not suitable for 35mm film SLR cameras or digital camera with image sensor bigger than APS-C size, only fits on the EOS Digital Rebel series or 50D, 40D, 30D and 20D SLR cameras."
Clearly my film PL type lenses will also not fit.....

For low budget shows with the FF35 i'd need to know that I can use my FD Primes? Except for still film lenses what will cover?

The Canon 50D dslr the largest of these sensors is only Sensor Size: 22.3×14.9 mm slightly narrower than the S35X sensor so my EOS lenses may not even cover that EPIC in some cases???

At the moment there is no Red approved way to use FD lenses on the Red 1, and I believe that will follow through to Epic. The Muse mount voids the warranty, as well as your upgrade path to Epic.

It's looking really good that there will be a smart EF mount for the RED 1 and that a factory EF mount will be offered for Epic.

This was disappointing to me as I had a Muse mount and full set of FD lenses months before my Red 1 arrived, and they announced the warranty issue a couple of weeks before it arrived.

Lucky for me however as I never installed the mount.

Have since gone Nikon and Zeiss ZFs.

So sad about that Muse mount. I bought one as well but never installed it because of the warranty/upgrade issues. There was of course no refund offered after we were told by Red it was an unacceptable mount. Would really have liked to play around with my FD's on the camera though. Hopefully in the Epic system of exchangeable mounts, there will be an FD option.

You should be able to use the Leica Van Deiman primes, which are rehoused leica still lenses that cover ff35. The trouble is the same as my nikon set, which is there are no wide-angle-wide-aperture lenses in the stills world.

As soon as someone makes that lens, we'll be in business.

For now, I've gotten myself a nice nikon prime set and i'm eager to try them out on the ff35

EF lenses cover FF35; EF-S lenses cover APS-C (and not FF35).

You might be able to use EF-S lenses on the FF35 cams in a crop mode, but I'd wait for RED to verify that before trying to mount them.

Some of what I've read from Canon suggests that mounting the EF-S lenses on a camera with a larger sensor size may result in damage to the sensor, as the lenses sink back deeper into the camera body...

That doesnt make sense to me, since having a lens sit too far back will damage the mirror, not the sensor, and the mirror will be the same distance from the lens in either camera, regardless of sensor size.

That shouldnt be an issue with the red/epic, since having no mirror means that flange space is empty.

Damage the mirror, not sensor ?

The mirror on the aps cameras is actually smaller ( and shorter ) than the full frame cameras as it only has to reflect a smaller image onto the ground glass, so it doesn't extend as far from the sensor, allowing aps lenses to extend further into the camera.

My concern is that the EPIC will allow the lens adapter aftermarket companies such as Birger to adapt their mount to EPIC without excessive expense... better with no expense....I have MOunts and I have lenses and I don't want them to become obsolete....

PS re warranty: Ken n Jim Hey your camera is out of warranty. If you install the "approved" Birger mount and tear the cable off you will still have to pay for repair!!

Both these mounts are really easy to put on if you are at all technical. RED Scarlet/Epic will benefit from the ability to run Still lenses especially FF size sensor.
