Hi,
I've been thinking about this whole "detatchable brain" thing that's going on with the Scarlet and Epic cameras...
It occurs to me that this is a perfect camera system to have a special Jib made for it... one where the "brain" plugs directly onto the jib at the top... sliding onto rails that are attached to the jib... and if you use a prime lens or smaller zoom... and a light matte box... you can keep the weight at that end of the jib down very low! So that would allow someone to release a small jib like those being used with DV cameras... much cheaper than massive camera cranes that are necessary for 100lb camera rigs.
Data, power, etc... would flow down internal cabling incorporated into the jib, and the batteries, recording media, controls (including lens controls possibly) and everything else could be over the fulcrum of the jib, rather than out on the end weighing everything down.
If someone DOESN'T build this jib... then I'll just buy a small DV jib and jerryrig it so the brain and lens (and MB/filters) are on the end, and everything else is over the fulcrum.
Then I get my sweet sweeping cinematic camera moves which I can't get with my Red without renting a crane/operators.
So yeah... something interesting for the indie folk...in my opinion.
I'm interested to see what other people come up with that takes full advantage of the detatchable brain situation. At the very least, the back end of the brain needs to be able to be attached to everything else through a wire... so that it has a shallow form factor and can be backed up very close to the wall...
etc etc.
