Don't know whose interested ( i am) in starting a local Red thread with view to sharing local info, resources, bit of networking, helping out in emergencies, or just say hi once every 6 months.

Sounds like a good idea. We would be keen to make contact with other locals who are interested in RED.

David I have sent you a PM.

Definately interested in some comunication. Especially for you guys with the 3 digit reservations in your initial finding from an Oz point of view.

Anyone got a ruling from customs yet on importing of the red one and lens?

and is anyone going to the SMPTE 4K DI workflow displayed on a 4K cinema projector in Melboune or Sydney put on by Quantel and Sony in association with Park Road Post ?

When is this? I hadn't heard a peep about that.

I got a email on sunday from smpte Australia . It says smpte members and guests in the flyer.

Additional information

"See the Quantels Pablo 4K colour grading system going through its paces in true 4K resolution and Sonys SXRD 4K Cinema projector showing what 4K cinema projection will look like in the very near future."

Thanks for that. Sounds interesting and will try and be there in Sydney.

im another one interested in all things red. im from canberra and would definately be interested in any sort of network, contact, etc. The 4k screening sounds very interesting as well.

cheers,

DW

Thought I be Johnny on the spot and post the link to the SMPTE Quantel 4K demo page:

http://www.smpte.org.au/index.asp

Note down the bottom, rsvp essential….

On a RED note, anyone have a notion how we can see Red footage when the cameras start shipping?

colour me interested . . .
would be great to know what kits people are getting together (lenses, support, post workflow etc.)

I'm interested too...

I'm interested too...

Howdy folks...

I'm interested in keeping up to date with local RED developments too. I'll be at the SMPTE meeting at Film Australia on Feb 27th and will be keeping an eye & ear out for anybody who's talking RED!

Cheers

howdy Oz players....
Great to see there are a few keen Oz RED users out there.
I have been talking to my web hosting service about starting up a user forum specifically for RED users here in OZ.
i'm wrapping up on a big shoot i the next few weeks, so i will get stuck into the creation of a forum site here in Oz in the next few weeks.
i'll keep an eye out for any RED freaks at the SMPTE show:wink:
see you there
Paul

SMPTE - Melbourne - anyone see it?

Just wondering if anyone who went to the Melbourne 4K demo can give a brief report, kit, processes, ough waw 4K looked awesome etc etc.

Import Duty & GST

Import Duty & GST

Just wondering if any of the Australian RED buyers have checked whether GST and/or import duty will be charged when their cameras get shipped to OZ?

I haven't paid either for a long time because I've always snuck gear in amongst a whole bunch of other equipment that's listed on a Carnet. Obviously that won't be possible if I order a RED when NAB gets underway :-)

Excellent question.
I thought about it a way back and have forgotten about it since. My company's GST registered so GST's okay for me. Import duty??

Good to meet you at SMPTE, Brainstorm. Good demo of Quantel Pablo 4K online system. Didn't get a price but a few $A100,000 was mentioned.

The Sony 4K projector ($A160,000) didn't blow my socks off even on Mystic India. Could have been some weird shit on setup or maybe it wasn't full 4K. I worked out my viewing angle of the screen was 130 degrees which says I should be seeing full rez 4K.....maybe I'm going blind.
Interesting to note the Sony 4K projector needs 4 dual HD-SDI connections to drive it. Also interesting that AFTRS has purchased a sony 4K projector and who was that cinema in Melbourne?.....Crown??
