Hello,

Does anyone know why occasionally you get multiple R3D clips within one .RDC folder?

For example, on one clip I got
A001_C006_0913NR_001.R3D (2gig)
and
A001_C006_0913NR_002.R3D (125.8mb)

....with one set of F, H, M, P proxies.

I transcoded each of the R3Ds in RR. It yielded two of exactly the same clip, same duration.

Therefore, I'm not sure this is an issue, but it seems weird... Any insights?

Mainly, I don't want to have to wait for the long transcodes on the extra clip if I don't have to.... How would I know which of the two is the "true" r3d?

The one potentially troublesome thing, depending on how you finish, is that RR doesn't seem to retain the exact name of the R3Ds when transcoding multiple clips.

Instead of keeping "_001" and "_002" at the end of the names from the R3Ds,
one Prores was simply spit out as "A001_C006_0913NR"
and the other simply ended with " _S001" instead.

anyway, thanks for your insights!

.R3ds are automatically segmented into 2GB chunks so if you shoot a longer than 2GB take it will be divided. I have takes that are 3 2GB parts and a little extra and so on. The metadata always points back to the beginning and spans to the rest, so there's no reason to transfer beyond the first segment as you'll just be getting the full take no matter which segment you start from. Organize by folders and you'll be fine.
