  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can Red supply a list of good 4k displays?

What do you think of the newer Sharp model they are running Mac os in touch mode?

It's identical. Same exact monitor, but with the touch surface addition. It's also not new. The touch version started shipping only a few weeks after the non-touch version, it's just a few of the tech rags finally got around to looking at it. The Mac drivers are new.

I'm actually here to find out how good the seiki 39 inch, we have a local distributor now.
The SEIKI's are pretty much crap. But they're cheap and plentiful and a good way to display stuff at 4K. I wouldn't ever use one for presenting to a client due to some of its flaws. It's a totally different animal, no way to do higher than 30Hz at 4K. In fact, 4K seems to run only at 30Hz and so we get judder when playing back 24fps material. I can't comment on how it might work in PAL regions where 50Hz is the norm, but it seems the SEIKI monitors are set up for that here. If I had a 50/25 Hz 4K source to feed it, I guess I could see what it would do. I kept my 50" SEIKI, but it's hung in my basement and the family uses it to watch TV and play games, but I do have the REDRAY feeding it as well through an HDMI matrix and it also feeds the 4K Samsung in my office. :)

That TCL 50" will probably be complete garbage. Everything else with the TCL label, that I've ever seen, is...

I was wondering why they were talking about the touch Sharp like it wasn't there before, I thought the original was touch, but they talked about a may release.

The Seiki or TCL, I'm talking about a rock bottom stand in until something descent comes. Just to do low end local stuff (not LA stuff) what do you think? What about the Hisense 50-85inch, ir Sony 55 inch that is going to be upgraded to hdmi 2 Jeff?

I'm still concerned about the 2020 color gamut, it is still a sub set of the full human gamut, and we have had laser TV for years now able to go a long way to the full gamut. There is already a gamut out there that goes beyond human vision, that other gamuts can be mapped into. I forget the name, but we need something like it for display (and camera) mapping, and redray laser, otherwise you will have to change displays eventually. So not even what they plan to introduce is full proof. I was actually thinking of doing a thread on it Jeff.

Thanks Jeff.
