What do you think about kessler revolution head and the oracle for crane shots? Or is it better choices in the same price range that is superior? I have not had theoperunity to test the revolution head.

I have used the revolution head a lot for crane shots.
Pluses - the oracle joy sticks allow a lot of realtime flexibility, is fairly inexpensive, works nice in the under carriage mode (i.e. when the head is facing down and the camera is cradled inside the rather long arm. Negatives - the pan isn't as smooth as I'd like it[EDIT for lens above 50mm ), tilt is pretty good but you need to be careful with camera's over 20 pounds, the overall weight is fairly high, the long arm doesn't allow you to get close to the ground when the system is mounted in the "upright" direction.

Overall is a great value for $2k, but is in a different ball game then the $20-50k crane heads.

We have used the Kessler on countless productions without issue. The trick is learning how to operate - which is a lot less easy than it looks. Never any issues with panning - and I am about as fussy as it gets about everything as many of you know. Maybe Patrick got a bad copy? 20 pounds is the stated operating limit and we have not gone over that - so not sure what happens when you do - or why you would need to with an Epic.

Would be great if you habe any links to production where it is used. Its mostly on sliders on youtube and vimeo doing timelaps. I like to see it mote in action at a crane with a live operator. So if you have a link to a comercial, musicvideo, corporate or other please share a link.

Edit: I dont mind if its a programed move as it can be great to se more capabilitys of it. Perhaps slow movements for interviews. But the live operated is harder to find and is usally a "test" rather than from a production.

I just noticed Kessler Updated the revolution pan/tilt and gave some options which i think really helps and invalidates some of my comments. Here's some notes on the upgrade version:

"One great feature of this system is the ability to order either the 500 series motor or 1000 series motor. The standard motor is the 500 series and is what has been used with version one of the head. It is a good all around motor, however, if you are either shooting on a long lens or primarily shooting time-lapse, you may want to look at getting the 1000 series motor. Basically, the difference is that the 1000 goes half the speed with twice as much torque as the 500. This allows you to do very precise moves. "

Used for both moco (with bits and bibs we designed ourselves) and "live". I hate timelapse, but love our Kessler Crane and technohead.

Recently Sold my unit. It's way too noisy and balancing is impossible with the fixed belt.
I only used it realtime, not for moco.
I would suggest the camera turret heads, easier to balance and there electronics are incredeble.

See church interiors here (rest is Steadicam and one hand-held shot)

One girl (Polina) plays all the parts - all moco is based on Kessler non-cinedrive "classic" motors.
