Yep. Well, no. Actually what I find sad is taking a very well known, and very well loved character like Jack Ryan and turning him into an action hero for no good reason.

Yup. Then again, we just watched that happen with Chris Pine in Star Trek:Into Darkness. Worked out OK, but it didn't feel like Trek... Anyway, I think Pine can pull it off better than Affleck did in Sum of all Fears. Er.. providing the story is up to snuff. I have my doubts. Serious doubts.

I think the real tragedy here is that it's not even a proper Clancy story, but a hack job re-write of something else. Considering the state of most screenwriting for feature films these days, there's almost no way this isn't going to suck.

At face value, yes it's awful. OTOH, it tells me right up front that I need to greatly lower my expectations.

IMO, Harrison Ford is the definitive Jack Ryan.
