  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Adobe Got Mugged.....

By hackers who made off with a lot of user account info including credit/debit information as well as Adobe source code for pretty much their entire line-up of products, which means a HUGE security risk for end-users. So monitor your financial stuff boys and girls and keep an eye out for anything suspicious.
 
Oh well, so much for the security crap...

I use a password only for forums and sites such adobe were I would never use a real CC, but one without funds other then the ones needed o buy or pay for something on that particular moment, then it's empty... EVERYONE should have a "For Internet Use Only CC"... ;)
 
Cloud is safer and better they said. Your data is fine they said.
 
Darn it! After dismissing CC altogether, I was forced to upgrade not long ago. Hopefully, our data/identity is safe but this just makes my move to CC even more sour.
 
I own only a single piece of Adobe software and it hasn't even been opened. It's a copy of Photoshop CS2 that I got with a big discount after I purchased my Canon EOS 20D in college. Never bothered to install it after I figured out that I didn't really need anything it offered at the time. I only use open-source software at this point in my life, so it sits there on my shelf as a decorative item.

The shelves in our studio is lined with old Adobe boxes. Now that everything is in the clouds, the last item up there is CS6.
 
Just add this to the end of a very long list of recently hacked companies. And it's not specifically a CC issue, it was their online services that was compromised. So it does include member and billing info for CC customers, but also for Adobe Store and other customers as well. If you purchased CS5 direct from Adobe and have not done business with them since, they may still have a credit card on file and that could have been obtained.

This isn't really a reflection on Adobe or their services, more a reminder that we all have to be diligent about protecting our own information to the best of our abilities. I usually replace my credit card numbers about once per year or have the CC company issue new authorization codes. It takes more than one hand's worth of fingers to count the major online services I interact with that have been hacked or compromised in some way just in the past 2 or 3 months. Apple's developer portal, Google Apps (happens almost weekly), Amazon App Store, two of my hosting providers, now Adobe. What does it mean? It means that current security practices and implementations, as well as the state of internet security as it is possible to implement at this time, are all crap. It also means that there are a lot of would-be opportunistic criminal assholes out there. In my opinion, this is a much bigger issue than people want to believe it is and I don't think anywhere near enough resources at both the government and local law enforcement levels are spent on these things. Mostly due to the highly technical and obscure nature of most of the violations. I think there also needs to be stiffer penalties for companies who allow their resources to be compromised through negligence. Such as having sensitive information on a laptop that is stolen from an employee's car. That happens all the time...
 
Yeah, I agree, as unfortunately I too do business with a large number of online services, of which 10, yes indeed 10 of them were also compromised in the past years, and after doing a replacement cards 2 times, at the third time, I only now have a "FOR INTERNET USE ONLY" credit card and checking account... To which I only transfer money to, as needed...

Just an other way to protect your self, but still had to change all my passwords on similar accounts shared with Adobe, and of course also get a new card al together, as some times just getting a new authorization code might not be enough as for what my back suggested.

Yes, but problem is in order to truly do that, you'll have to "NOT" have any bills at all paid electronically, and only by check, and even then those checks info is written by companies like Gas company electric companies in to their computer systems, and there you go, your bank info is up for grabs again, of course less plausible to something happen then when dealing electronically with your bills, no cell phone etc.

Then this would also mean absolutely no Bank accounts, as they are Completely electronic within themselves, baking up all of your transactions and info on to LTO tapes... ;)
 
Monthly retainer cost model for software is a horrible deal for the consumer. (not to mention personal security and privacy)

VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET, everyone...its the only voice a consumer has.

Jumped ship on Adobe CC the minute I heard the new pricing model.
 
give me a break, where else can you get all the software features included in CC for 60 buck a month? we all want it all and we all want it cheap, for me Adobe has been delivering and i have been more than happy with the cloud, and hey - what viable alternitive is there really out there for an indi producer?

Well, @ $2600 the cost of the Master Suite reaches $60/mo. in 3 2/3 years (faster if you take a deduction). Every day beyond that gets even cheaper. :-)

and what were you editing on 3 2/3 years ago? it certainly could not handle 5K and more without transcoding could it? were do you expect to be 3 2/3 years from now?
