So, as the title says... are there any tricks to make out PL mounts smoother?

I used a few epics and an Alexa on a shoot today, and I cry every time I attach a lens to the alexa. The mount is butter smooth. But every Epic seems to have a little bit of stick to it, bot in putting the lens on, and taking it off...

thoughts, thoughts, thoughts thoughts...

I have two Scarlets with PL mounts - one has tighter tolerances than the other, and it even varies a bit between RPP lenses, and other cinema primes. Sometimes drives me and my AC crazy as we fumble a lens change and hope that no-one is looking.

Its the worst when you have a top plate that hangs over the front a bit.. starts to hurt your fingers after you hit it soo many times in a row.

The DSMC PL mount is not the least smooth I've used... I find the F3 to be even worse.

Considering the incomparable convenience of switching mounts on Reds, I could personally care less about their smoothness or whatever.

It's not about switching mounts… it's about switching PL lenses on the RED PL mount. If you don't care - then you probably have never used a PL mount on an ARRI camera to know how smooth they are and that there is a difference.

I agree, but at least it's robust! THAT I like! =)

the only tip I have for you is if you use an AllStar PL A-Mount, make sure you practice a few times. I find that one to be the most confusing , as there is no indicator of a locking position and I almost had a SUPER expensive PL lens fall off!

Thanks for the practice tip Chad! After 20+ years of changing PL mount lenses I should probably spend some time out in the studio to get my s**t together.

i own this one and its smoother than Ti PL mount.

The Red mount is made to just a wee bit too tight of a tolerance. It's fucking tight on some lenses. The arri mounts are just a little sloppier so they go on nice and easy. Other that remachining the Epic mount, it's not changing.

I feel you, Ivan. Mine sticks as well. When I first started using it I couldn't figure out if I was doing something wrong or what!
If I am using a big, heavy lens like the Red Pro 18-85, changing it out by myself can be kind of scary!
