  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RedMag reader won't mount through FW800. USB and eSATA work fine.

Like the title says, the reader doesn't show up if I plug it in through FW800. I've tried it on a MBP, MBPR with thunderbolt adapter, a Hackintosh and a Mac Pro. Also tried multiple FW cords and both FW ports on the reader. USB and eSATA work just fine.

The FW used to work and the reader still gets power through FW, since the light turns on. Any ideas? Has the FW in my reader been extinquished?

have you tried it with multiple mags? Try it with AC power into the station too.

If not, RED's RMA is pretty quick with things.

I've tried it with multiple mags as well. I haven't tried AC power, since the power supply that came with it doesn't have a cord that fits my sockets.

I'm not sure I can RMA it, since the reader is about a year and 8 months old (though I would've assumed its lifespan to be longer than that). In the worst case I can keep it connected to my tower with eSATA and get a new one with USB3 for shoots. But I'm interested in hearing if anyone else has had the same problem and if there's something to do to fix it.

I was under the impression that RMAing specifically means returning something under warranty. I could send it in to be looked at, but I'm guessing the shipping costs + any work to fix it would probably end up being close to the price of a new reader.
