  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic wont boot anymore on latest firmware URGENT !

Dominik,

just in case, you mentioned earlier in this thread you had irregulations with the LCD cable, tried to boot up with no LCD as well, with may be an HDMI monitor?
"Die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt..."

Cheers, Ulf

hey Ulf,

thats the problem the camera assistant initially reported...but I dont think there's actually an issue with the screen or cable. he just didnt realise that the whole camera wasnt booting at all and therefore...no image.

i tried a different cable and tried booting the camera without any screen attached but the outcome is always the same. no led on..fans going...nothing else happens.

I'm getting the unsettling feeling that there is something going on with the firmware. Scary. I'm sorry for owner/operators that are doing their best and keeping up with the firmware upgrades, just to discover things like this.

Sorry to hear Dominik, but I guess it's only sending it in left over. :( Did you hear from the Bomb Squad yet?
For me it was out of the blue, too. It was a piece on the board which "just died". And it happened on 4.0.18, too.

Halt die Ohren steif!

I've had a similar thing - the camera shutdown and they every time I attempted to restart the camera appeared to be starting up, the fans kicked in, no image on the screen and then the camera died. In my case it turned out the there had been some water damage to the boards as I was filming in an extremely humid environment. The camera has to to go back to Red. It's all good now (£ 1,500 later!).

yeah Luigi very similar, my screen flashes as well at the start then nothing.

yes is same....
and 'happened to me on a musical set ....
I only managed once to turn it on. By connecting the module +1.

You can only send it as soon as possible to the Red, about 15 days with shipment.

I'm sorry you and 'success, I understand. It 'very bad.

the cost being about $ 800.

thats interesting, so you got yours fixed already ? what was ultimately wrong with it ?
the timing for this couldn't be worse :/ but I try and get the camera to RED asap.

Big thanks to my rep Dan Baum who acted so quickly and got me an RMA even after his work hours and Josh Garcia !

Has your camera been near water or dampness? Has it been out on a unsupervised rental?

Have you tried connecting another LCD (or simply disconnecting the LCD, and seeing if it will make a shot when you press record?)

Hey Robert,

neither water nor damp/ very humid environments recently. as for the rentals...I usually send my camera assistant out with the gear and he knows every screw of my rental package front and backwards...so there couldn't really have been any miss conduct there either.

yep tried it without LCD...i completely stripepd the camera last night to just the brain....even took the lens mount off....but nothing happens. the fans start up but thats about as fas as it gets.

Sorry to hear your situation Dominik, the exact same thing just happened to my Scarlet. I was just able to leave for a shoot, wanted to boot the camera up to format a card (I had it on and working an hour before hand), plugged it into the AC, hit the power button and now I just get that same thing with the fan going up and down, redvolts don't work either... I'll try it again in a little while, then contact RED if need be.

The strange thing is this happened last weekend when I tried to power it from the AC adapter, however after powering on and off a couple of times from the redvolt it worked fine after that, and from the AC again (that was using the beta build of v5 firmware) I did use the adapter yesterday a lot without issue but maybe its faulty.

My Epic got evaluated and fixed....one of the internal boards was dead. According to RED they found small metal shavings in the camera body....they assume that a screw which was too long has been forced into the back of the camera.
I've been hiring out my EPIC with a V lock adaptor/ plate for years....looks like on one of the previous hires someone must have grabbed the wrong screw and forced it into the body, which caused the shavings....which caused the board to shorten/ fail.
