Redmags keep unmounting themselves on transfer to edit system.

ISSUE: Redmags only will mount 30-40% of the time, and cards will unmount themselves while transferring content.

I have never had this issue until a shoot I did a few days back. I've transferred content dozens of times without hiccups with both these exact redmags and the card reader.

We shot two 128GB cards. While transferring, the Redmags would unmount themselves. Sometimes I would get the error 'Hard drive was not ejected properly', other times I would get the error 'data could not be written...'

I have tried transferring on both my tower and my laptop. I have tested both power supplies to the card reader (wall plug and USB), tested both FW800 ports and the SATA port.

Any thoughts or ideas outside of a defected card reader?

I have the same issue sometimes. It is random, can't find a pattern, when or why this happens. Usually changing the USB port in the computer or "adjusting" a little bit the plug into the reader solves the problem....for some days...
