Just for the sake of truth - the 18mm T1.5 is not a true 18mm lens. It is more like a 19-20mm lens.

Compare it with the 18mm T2.8 and you will see that the angle of view of the T2.8 is MUCH wider than the T1.5 version. It's a surprising find. The T1.5 version is more like a 20mm lens, my guess is that it was the only way that Canon could boast a T1.5 t-stop on this lens.

Also, the T2.8 is sharper than the T1.5

Both versions do not cover Dragon 6K, but the rest of the K35s do, which makes them an amazing set of lenses.

That being said, this lens is great, of course, and the speed makes up for any of the above points I mentioned. Curious for how much it would go.

Good luck with the sale Robert!

Mike

Just for the sake of truth? hmmm that's a big statement....Let me put that to the test Mike.
I'm not sure what kind of tests you did, but saying that all 18mm T1.5's are not as sharp as a T2.8 is a generalization ? My T1.5 is very sharp.
I guess you would have to test a decent number of lenses to say that your information was indeed correct, not just one T2.8 against one T1.5. Those lenses would have to be fully serviced and projected before an accurate comparison. I'm assuming that you have tested the 18mm on a 6K dragon for coverage, mine is certainly very happy covering 5K FF.

Dear Robert,

I hope my comments didn't upset you. The T1.5 is a good lens, as I stated already.
I own both versions (T2.8 and T1.5) and both have advantages and disadvantages. I wouldn't trade one for the other!
One is a true 18mm focal length and is a hair sharper than the other, one is faster which is obviously important.

Please test them and you will see I am right.

Both cover 5K FF no problem! Both are good lenses.

You will get a good price on the T1.5. I am not trying to derail you thread, the T1.5 is a good lens worth its money.

Good luck with the sale!

Mike

No problems Mike, you aroused my curiosity and i have to tell you i just offered up 2 more 18mm lenses and tested them alongside the 18mm K35.

18mm Cooke mini S4i
18mm Cooke Speed Panchro
18mm K35 T1.5

Absolutely no difference in frame size. Sorry Mike, your 1st truth.....maybe not the truth ? May i suggest that your 18mm T2.8 is more like a 16mm if you are seeing a difference or your T1.5 is not quite as it should be ?
The 18mm K35 and the Cooke mini S4i are tack sharp
The speed panchro slightly softer ( as expected )

Hi Robert,

I tested both lenses in 4K on Epic and 5K on Epic and I can see a clear difference in angle of view.

What did you test the lenses on?

Do you have an 18mm T2.8 to verify my findings?

Thanks!
Mike

You know, I really wish people wouldn't highjack these honest sales posts with marginal and off the mark information. The guy is trying to sell a lens. It is a well known lens by a well known manufacturer. How is it helpful to anybody to start picking nits about the lens? Particularly if it is subjective as it sounds like it is. These are great lenses. Let people make up their own minds.
That's my two cents on it...

I don't have a 2.8, but i do have 3 other 18mm lenses and i tested the K35 against 2 of them. Very simple test @ 5K FF. Lining up a shot against a white wall, mark the wall on the edge of frame, change lens...simple. I think we can safely say that the Cookes are an accurate 18mm. I would find yourself a 16mm and look at your T2.8, or as i said perhaps there is a misdemeanor with your 18mm.

In all honesty i have to agree Rob, on all accounts. I have also done my best to prove that the information provided regarding the FOV of the T1.5 is inaccurate, it is an 18mm Lens, with a great pedigree that has stood the test of time and comparatively has the same coverage as 1 contemporary 18mm Cooke and one Mid-Century 18mm Cooke, which seems to make a fairly conclusive point. I'm going to leave it at that and hope it puts an end to the matter,

I definitely don't want to derail the thread, on the contrary, I said that both versions (T2.8 and T1.5) are great lenses, and I said that Robert will get a good price for it for sure.

I will refrain from any more posts on this thread since people are bothered, and I apologize if I upset Robert.
Mike

P.S. I just compared the T2.8 and the T1.5 since my integrity is being questioned, and the T2.8 is significantly wider than the T1.5
I don't have another 18mm brand, though. However, I do have a 14mm and it is much wider than either 18mm, which leads me to believe that the 18mm T2.8 is definitely NOT a 16mm lens.

Let's just leave it at that, and good luck with the sale, once again. Fingers crossed.

bob

did you transfer my amount?

regards.

dear all

i sold on 29/06/2013 kowa anamorpic lenses 40,50,75,100 and century wide angle adaptor for us$20k to ROBERT HORWELL alias BOB, which he decided to exchange red mx camera set up and balance payment of us$ 10k. we exchange pics of respective equipments to each other. i also get transfered red mx in my name thru RED uk and also informed him to arrange for checking for lenses which i was running them on rent. since i was not in need of immediate money so it is decided to get when i needed.

when i ask him for balance of us$9320 after deducting tranfer fees and evaluation on 17/08/2013, he started complaining about condition of lenses and asking for cost of refabrication. he also sent repair quotation from ChrisEdwards of
OPTICAL SUPPORT Ltd, UK for £1000.00.

now he is not attending my calls, nor answering my emails, which force me to intimate here.

BOB, if you claiming yourself as "GENTLEMAN" please tranfer my amounts at the earilest.
even i am not comfortable to report it here, but you forced me to do so.....

Mahadev for goodness sake. Why don't you just email me. The lenses have real problems which are down to major problems. One of the main issues is that the lenses appear to have been rebuilt with some of the optics in the wrong way round or upside down. We are not sure yet. Also 3 of the lenses have the anamorphic glass out of alignment and as a result the image will not resolve or focus correctly. Some of the lenses would not even resolve enough to use on betacam. There are also air-space'problems on 3 of the lenses. Really a catalogue of problems. This is a set if lenses that you assured me where in excellent, useable condition. Mahadev also consider the camera I sent you was in immaculate condition, fully serviced at RED Europe and paid for by me, I even paid your transfer fee for you, including the VAT, which I could not claim back because the invoice was made out to you. I also paid for the shipping of the camera back and forth for service. I am a ridiculously honest person, I have sold various sets of lenses to fellow red users and every time the lenses are exactly as described, K35 set to Alex, my PL Leica set to Anthony, lights to others.
Now Mahadev I would not bring this deal into the public domain because as far as I am concerned I have told you all along I was not happy with the optics that you sent me, as they were so far away from how you described them. Every time I tell you this you tell me that you want me to pay you the full price for them, even though you already have a full and comprehensive RED MX kit. All I have asked you to do is contribute towards the correction of the lenses so that they can be used as they were intended to be. Do you seriously expect me to spend another 2200 GBP to have these lenses repaired when I have already paid you good money for them and fully kept my side of the bargain when I sent you the RED MX kit. I have offered to pay you what is left of the payment minus a contribution for the repairs, and you have been very unreasonable by refusing that request. I mailed you a list of problems with the lenses, thatvwere identified by a very well respected lens technician here in the UK. Someone who you should not have mentioned on this forum as he has no part to play in this other than repairing and servicing lenses. So I ask you to remove his name before you potentialy end up in court for some reason. Below is a list of the problems That have been identified with the lenses.

"40mm, Back focus error, alignment of anamorphic unit error, when projected, suspect air spacing issue, no contrast or resolution.

50mm, Back focus ok, alignment close, projected image ok.

75mm, Back focus error, anamorphic alignment error, when projected. suspect air spacing issue, no contrast or resolution.

100mm, Back focus error, small anamorphic alignment error, when projected, suspect air spacing issue, no contrast or resolution.

It is possible these lenses may have been dismantled and incorrectly assembled.

All the mechanisms need a service, all four lenses have oil on the iris blades"

So Mahadev now ou have pushed and pushed to go public with this I hope you are happy. As it is here for the world to see, the lenses you sent me that we're supposed to be in "excellent" condition.

For example, the lens I am selling here, it REALLY IS in excellent condition, and It will be fully serviced before it goes to it's proud owner.

I suggest you now do the right and mature thing and take this off the forum and email me, like you should have done in the first place. As I have said to you, many times, paying you is not a problem, I have tried to pay you, I am just not letting you fob me off and pay you for lenses which at the moment are very expensive paperweights. Mahadev it should also be noted that I did not "force" you to do anything, I have been mailing you on a regular basis, I mailed you 2 days ago again with the list of problems, problems I made you aware of weeks ago, which for some insane reason you keep ignoring!. You posted on the forum a week ago, and I mailed you then, that thread was deleted by the moderator, for good reason. What you are trying to do here is nothing short of blackmail, to try and get your own way, you try and discredit me. But I am sorry, I have too many good and honest transactions on this forum for your post to hold water.

Bob or Robert is a good honest guy I have purchased my camera and lenses from him and also rent his equipment never once had a problem if anything it was me who has had a problem and I know I can call him for advice good bloke honest

Hi Everybody,
Here is my tuppence or 2 cents worth.
I have been selling K35 lenses for about 6 years since they became popular as a great buy and value for money.
All the Canon k35 lenses I have ever had through my hands including all the Moviecam sets when I was the UK Agent do exactly what they say on the scales. No if or but, just accuracy.
Whenever a sale has been queried after they arrived and on the buyers camera IT WAS PROVED every time it was the camera not the lenses, resulting in adjustment and a happy client.
I well am known for saying " Get your Back Focal distance checked on the camera". If it was a 35mm film camera you must be plus nothing minus Half a thousands of an inch. MAX.
Video is more important with ever greater frame sizes so keep on top of that fact.

Now a word about Old Lenses, Most are more then 30 years old and in the case of B&L maybe 50 years. These lenses were not designed to work at flat out stop, and only the K35's work well at the designed speed of circa T1.5. The rest [B&L for example] were used back then always about F3.5 Just check out early Hawaii Five O TV pics. as an example.

Finally a word about Bob Horwell.
A more honest DoP and business person would be hard to find. He knows his business and only ever wants what's correct. Say to him a lens is in Excellent condition and that's what he expects to receive "not damaged goods" how ever well they have been polished.

bob, you are reporting me the condition of the lenses after two months of delivery that too when i asked for balance payment. i was specifically informed you to check the lenses before delivery. i also quote you accordingly.
secondly, as far as transfer fees is concerned we already decided to deduct from my balance payment. you have mentioned about shipping cost that too already decided. i have not mentioned anywhere the cost of sending lenses to frankfurt personaly because that too we have mutually decided.
do you think i am willing to be here in pulic domaim, it is because of you. i am following up from 17/08/2013 for my payment via emials, calls and watsapp. you hardly replied that too in long interval and with no continuity and always with new script. even if, we are here whats wrong in it. if it is fair deal from your side too why you worry to be here in public domain.
also you have emailed me on 04/09/2013, quotation for 1000GBP for repair/service from the said person, now you claiming the cost is 2200GBP.
also do you want me to upload here watsapp conversation in which you have confirmed me that you are making payment of us$ 8k on 31/08/2013 at 13.51 IST and keeping balance for repair.

as a gentleman, you must fulfil your commitment. i am not blackmailing you. this are facts.

will it require whole 9320 for repair?
can you transfer 7500 now.

From: Robert Horwell[mailto:bobhorwell@icloud.com]
..................................As I said I will contact youwhen the lenses are repaired.
Bests
Bob.
