I'm attempting to shoot 59.94fps and my r1mx keeps saying SLOW MEDIA. I initially attempted with RED 16gb CF cards and it didn't work. Then I rented an SSD module and (2) RED 64gb cards and Im getting the same message. "Incompatible format" - Slow media. Is there a problem with my camera? I tried searching and only found threads with 8gb CFs and the same issue.

I can't shoot anything above 23.98. I'm on Redcode28 and i tried with 3k and 2k resolutions.

What firmware is the RED One on? For a R1MX camera, you'll need to have the camera upgraded to build 30 or higher for it to know what an SSD Side module/SSD is all about. Older builds would give you an error message like the one you've seen if you just swapped the CF module out with the SSD module and were on too old of a build.

As a side note I think RED One M might have a different build number for SSD compatibility (maybe a build or so earlier), I don't recall.

I found a temporary fix, I could shoot at a higher framerate in varispeed but I cant change the project timebase.

Just confirmed on a R1MX here in house...

64GB SSD
3K 2:1
59.94
RC36

This was the highest resolution, and best quality possibly.
If looking through the R1MX manual pages 79 and 80 this breaks down the media format and project setting combos that are possible. Treat SSD's like you would the RED-RAM MAG

Ah, I wasn't paying attention when I made my earlier reply. RED One isn't capable of setting its timebase to 59.94. So Mr. Groven is correct, if you must record 59.94 fps, you will need to set your project timebase to 24/30 and use varispeed.

Andre,
Thank you for checking on your end. I'm RC28 and I can't shoot anything higher than 24. I'm assuming its a deeper issue than just a setting.

Did you format after, changing the setting. I had to do that all the time when switching time bases and compression. It would say incompatible project, then I would format at those specs and then it would work.

Actually Red Ones are capable of setting Timebase to 59.94Hz. But only if "Open Gate" mode is not selected in the AV>Viewfinder Menu.

Thomas,

That was the answer!! Thank you, really appreciate your input!

Just wondering if you ever resolved this issue as i am getting the same with my R1MX using the 320GB drives. I cannot get above 24 FPS for any project even after reformatting the drives. Varispeed is fine and can get all the FPS settings etc but not at the project level ??? Frustrating as i would like to have a default of 29 FPS for most projects and then use varispeed for faster speeds . . . . Cannot even do this :-(

Even when you are in your preferred setting, while you're getting the error and then you reformat?

Your procedure for setting Project Timebase should be selecting System>Project>Configure>Timebase. Adjusting the desire timebase, then clicking DOWN (or IN) on the joystick to set the adjustment. THEN formatting the drive. It's the formatting that tells the drive what you have set on the camera. The relevant Red Operation Guide page for Firmware v31.6.16 is page 34.
