I just got my Scarlet and attached the side handle - powered it up with Anton Bauer dionics. The Green LCD light is on. I put in the SSD - no light. The side handle buttons are not working at all. The only thing I can do is local/unlock it by pressing 1 and 4. Is this normal? I thought the side handle would operate the camera out of the box without the touch screen, but I can't even navigate the menus. Any help this Sunday would be so appreciated. I'm taking the rig on a shoot to Africa tomorrow. Ugh.

I meant the Power LCD light is green, but my record light on the brain isn't turning green... it's dark.... Could that be it?

The media card reader's LED is dark, even with the presence of a card, and when I hook an external monitor up via HDMI, it isn't receiving a signal....

You should be able to see something out of the hdmi port even though the menu's are not enabled, so that sounds like your first problem. Was this camera new or used, if new it should have the standard firmware but used it could have old firmeware and non-standard configurations.

After you get your screen working ... I haven't tried this for awhile ... but this thread goes over the instructions for configuration without the touch screen. At least a bit ago, by default the menu's did not go out via the hdmi port (i have two touch screens now, so haven't followed these instructions for awhile) ... http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?91326-USING-SCARLET-WITH-IKAN-WX7-and-SIDE-HANDLE

Depending on the SSD configuration, you may need to format it via the menu's in order to record.

Thank you Patrick. It is new. I tried a firmware upgrade, but the media isn't being recognized (and I can't format it via the Scarlet to then put it in my RedMag and install the firmware upgrade). I am going to try this anyhow.....

Did you receive it in parts and then put the handle and side ssd on yourself ? If you put it on yourself, read the manual carefully, and then take everything on and off carefully (I didn't do this correctly on my second scarlet ... which i put together with a bunch of pieces ... and had some weird problems until i re-seated everything).

Also for sure send a note to your bomb squad guy, and try to find a local reduser that can help you out (do a walk through of the camera). I don't need to tell you that putting a new camera together right before a trip is nerve racking, so easy to miss things.

Patrick, I updated the firmware and for the first time when an SSD was installed the Media Indicator was green (although the LED on the actual SSD reader was dark). I followed the 'force_preset' instructions for my external 720p monitor. The Media Indicator light is flashing red. When can I power off?

I got the Red with the side SSD already intact. I've been doing the firmware upgrades w/o the sidehandle on.

Thanks so much for everything Patrick. I have a 10 hour layover at Heathrow, which is conveniently only 10 miles from the RED Europe office. I'll be spending all day tomorrow there for sure. Thanks so much once more.
