Is there a bottom plate for the Red-One that can hold 19mm rods and can be purchased used for VERY cheap?

All it needs to be is one single unit, have a 3/8" screw on the top, a 3/8" screw hole on the bottom, and two slots for 19mm rods.

I don't care about the quality, brand, or source, as long as it's dirt cheap.

The reason I want such a thing, is because it's going to get seriously abused, maybe even ruined.

The official Red-One Bottom Plate won't work.

If anyone knows of such a thing, please let me know.

Thanks,

George

how cheap is super cheap?
$500 or so for this... which you would then redrill

cheapest I can think of is to get a 19mm rod standard lens support, a block of alumium, and use your own drill press and tap & die set to whittle your own..

I have the Red One original production pack, and the issues I sea are all weight related.. however, it does line up all Arri 19mm studio rod system accessories correctly.

(i do use the cheeseplate when on a tripod, instead of the shoulder block)OR

plus your drill press.. if you don't want tapped holes, its even easier... just bevel the edges of the 3/8 (or slightly larger) holes you drill through the plate stack

Thanks, but I'm talking about something I can buy used off eBay or wherever, for under $100.oo, maybe even less.

Really finding something that meets these specifications for under $100 is going to be difficult/impossible. There are many people selling their Red Bottomplate for around $100. You mentioned that its not going to work-- is it because of its weakness? this would have to be factored into finding something to replace it as well.

Thanks to everyone, but I found something on eBay that will work great and is almost disposable.

Over and out!!

Can you possibly link what you brought. Im interested in what you got for $100.

Well Alan,

I'm not so sure it would work after all. I have not purchased it yet, mainly because it may be too small for my purposes. Also, it is made in and sold from China. And, I hate getting things from China. It takes forever to get here, is such a pain in the ass to return and costly as well, and the quality is usually crap.

Anyway, here is what I was considering:

You can even buy the plate separately if you have a Red 19mm Bracket already.

Good luck!

That plate "could" work, but may require some mods to get it to function in real production scenario. You'll need to put two through-holes (not tapped) on that plate, and you'll also need to source low-head 3/8" screws so they sit flush with the aluminum. The through-holes will need to be counter-sunk to make room for the low-head (or flat-head if you prefer). After that, it should mount to any standard tripod plate, considering that the through-holes do not interfere with the available tapped holes for the tripod mounting plate

Oh, yes, right! I was not inferring that it would not need some modification. Of course it will. But, to those of us that have the means, will, and know-how, it should not be that much of a problem.

When every penny counts, you HAVE to make due with what you have. You HAVE to make it work. That is, and always has been, the Roger Corman philosophy. Once you work for him, you learn to make things work one way or the other. They may not be the best, but if they work, THAT is all that matters.

;)
