Hi all,

About a week ago we had an amazing night time heat lightning display. When I walked out of my studio and looked up I had to run back in and grab my Scarlet .I set up in a spot with a clear view of the event and began shooting at 30 fps with a 180 degree shutter angle. I could see horizontal band artifacts on the 5" monitor so I adjusted to a 360 degree shutter in the hopes of minimizing this. It seems to have improved the situation but it did not eliminate it. The frequency of the flickering is somewhat random so I could not think of a way to offset it using a specific frame rate or shutter angle other than what I tried. Fortunately I was able to salvage some of the material with editing and a little vfx work to rebuild the problem frames using individual clean frames.

However for the future it would be nice to know if there is a viable solution for capturing theses sorts of flickering/flashing events in camera on the Scarlet in real time. Anyone have any suggestions that do not involve upgrades or the purchase of additional equipment or long time exposures?

Thanks,

Bill
