I am flummoxed with my RR. When I first got it, it rendered 4KHD from my R1 at realtime, 1:1. Now, with the Epic set at 4KHD, the render time has doubled. What am I not understanding about the process?

Knowing the specs of your system and how the rocket is connected would help to find any possible issues. My current rocket transcodes faster than real time with 5kHD material, MBPR + Magma T3 thunderbolt case + HBA Raid Tower. If you're working off usb2 or firewire800, or read/write to the same drive, you'll transcode at a slower rate.

Sure, it has sharpening added and a smidge of saturation. The specs of the equipment hasn't changed, so that shouldn't matter. The only thing I can think of that is different is the camera used, R1 vs Epic. If they're both at 4KHD, shouldn't they render the same?

Bear in mind if you are using the saturation and sharpness controls under "Look : Image" those will be accelerated by the Rocket. If you are using "Look : Effect : Saturation" and "Look : Effect : Unsharp Mask" those are processed on the CPU, and will slow renders down. Anyithing being enabled in the "Post : Look : Effects" section will slow renders down.

Thanks Nick. Didn't recall that, but now that you mention it, I do. Since my machine is old, I'm sure the CPU is adding to the delay since I did use the Post : Look : Effects section. Time for an upgrade I suppose.

Just tried it without using the Post effects and rendering times returned to normal. Need to keep that in mind until I upgrade.

Also remember the Red1 is 12bit and Epic is 16bit.

Another excellent point! I think my computer heats up because it's not quite up to the task anymore. That, or it's simply cursing me for asking it to process 16 vs 12 bit.
