We moved on to LTO5 a while ago and it is time to let our trusty LTO4 drive go. This was purchased new (b-stock) and gave us perfect performance using BRU server on our Mac. We ran less than 150 tapes on this, so based on the expected usage of these things it has very little overall use. It stayed connected to our Mac in an air conditioned room.
If you are still using spinning disks to store your precious footage, LTO is a great way to increase your reliability, protect your footage and sleep better at night. Tape stock is cheap enough that you can run a second copy and store it in an alternate location for added safety.
The drive is the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 1760 SAS model. You will need a SAS card as your interface. We purchased one with 2 SAS connections and got a breakout cable to get 4 eSata connections from the second port.
PM with any questions.
Thanks,
Walter
