ok my question is i am going to be on set in a couple weeks and the dp would like a monitor like all dp's problem is im so close to going over budget and i need to get a monitor for him like cheap cheap

i know they sell lcd computer monitors with dvi and hdmi inputs could i monitor out of those good or great or at all?

or i have a gateway 24 inch display (http://www.gateway.com/retail/fhd2400.php) with dvi. vga, hdmi, component, composite, svideo, could i use that and get good quality, great quality?

or in general what would you suggest

thanks

JMV

Not all DVI monitors will work.
From my remembrance, DELL will (according to Jarred)

You could also use a decklink HD-link out of one of the SDIs to DVI.

OR rent a Panny 17"... :)

I have the Gateway 24". It should work work for the HDMI out, but only for casual review and confirmation of continuity. It is a decent computer monitor, but a poor quality video monitor. Not good enough for critical image quality judgement.

i have the 22" gateway with same inputs ...
Red does work with it ( shows the image , do not use a final judgement on image) ....
it shows the Red image (frame) with look around .. it does not show all the data outside the look around ( luma scale, stoplights , batt, media etc )...

cool ya what will it preview out at when i run it through the hdmi 720P or 1080i/p and ill just bring up the color bars and colabrate it to my best judge ment

ya the monitor will just be used for framing for the dp we will calabrate it as best as we can using the color bars
what can u have it display at 480, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p ?

get a HD-SDI to HDMI converter... or you will spend almost half in clunky HDMI cables, when you can use BNC to run like normal... Just a thought... It worked very well for us for 10 weeks, 2 cameras.

We've been using a cheap LG245 and a Viewsonic 2435 via HDMI successfully, they even sync to the odd pixel numbers display with the additional info (many video monitors don't). That said, they are OK for framing and such info, but not for judging colors…
