  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

One thing that really bugs me about premiere is I dont get smooth transitoins. If you want to fade in a title smooth. Does not matter how long the fade is. Its like the fade is up on 15% on frame 2 already. So its very harsh. Doesnt mayyer if i turn of the mervery playback that i read on other forums with users with this problem. Also where is the options to choose wich fall off curve to use. I dont alwas want a linear curve. Feels cumberstone to keyframe simple tasks like tis manually.

I have been bitching about this forever and most people had no idea what I was talking about, when CS6 went from cross dissolve to film dissolve it seemed to get a little better...but still...

I just want to add my voice, this has been bugging me forever as well. I would love for this to be fixed.

I key frame opacity for those critical fades ( fades into & out of black seem to be the worst )......then copy to other clips I want to apply the same fade to.

The other route is to put the fade on an adjustment layer then slide the adjustment layer around until you get something you want.

This is one of the "clunky" reasons why I'm moving out of CS6.

As Joel said fades seem almost to "pop on'.

So I use keyframed opacity with anywhere between 3 to 4 keyframes to help smooth out the timing issues, gives greater control but it certainly isn't click & drag transition.

sad part is you shouldn't have to do anything, it should just work. Keyframes are slow and are old school for such a "high tech, up to date" program. Adobe is slow to fix a lot of the basic issues. How long has 5KHD not worked with a RedRocket? Since the beginning despite being told hundreds of times about the issue over several years...

If I change the titles blending mode from normal to screen (under effect controls -> opacity), then I dont get this instantly to 15% jump.

Oh yeah that reminds me, I have found it's generally a good idea to never have nothing in a timeline (like fading to or from black)...for those instances, it's better to put a black solid underneath. It doesn't solve the transition issue, but it can help.

FYI, this issue is fixed in Premiere Pro CC 7.0.1.

By default you will still see it for some reason, but if you go to Sequence > Sequence Settings and un-check "Composite in Linear Color (requires GPU acceleration or max render quality)" the issue goes away for that sequence.

In previous versions you will "only" see it when you composite something over something, lets say Black Video on Video 1 and a video clip, placed abowe the Black Video with a transition applyed on Video 2.

This issue has always been a pain. So no solution for people still using Premiere CS5/5.5 ? An answer from someone from Adobe would be welcome ;-)

The only soluton is to not use GPU Acceleration or never use "Use Maximum Render Quality". Yes, that's *not* a good workaround, i know it...

Historically Adobe has never released updates for older versions of applications, so i think there never will be an update for CS5/CS5.5 that fixes this. It's not even fixed in CS6.

I have zero issues at all on CC 2015. Super smooth dissolves, whether I use "cross dissolve" or just change the opacity.

+1 on easing. Makes the WORLD of difference.

Just ctrl+click on the keyframe

Really? Unless I uncheck "Composite in linear light" my standard cross dissolve has sucked for years in Premiere. Jumps from 0% to like 10% on the first frame and then from 90% to 100% on the backend. Keyframing never a problem regardless of setting but still, this is crap.

So...3 years later and this shit still exists?

Unfortunately it still does.

This has been a major gripe of mine with Premiere and other similar software.... for decades.
