Hiya!

I have used a lockit box to get correct (hopefully) timecode for Audio Recorders.
I would really like to edit in Final Cut Pro X, but can I sync it in any easier way than manual?

I just tried PluralEyes, but it doesn't support Red files. I guess I could transcode to ProRes4444 and sync to that but I would really like to stay in Raw. Or maybe I can sync to the Proxies.
I have already tagged all the movies, but I guess I will loose that.

How do you guys deal with this in post?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hey Andreas,

Without knowing exactly your anticipated workflow, it's tricky to figure out what will help you.

Assuming you've got matching timecode on your r3d's,

You can batch sync in RCX, takes seconds and then output your QT's from there.

If you want to go r3d -> straight into FCPX to proxies (which is my preferred route), you can only do them one at a time.

Unless..

**You use an app called Sync 'N' Link X (available on the app store), this apparently will sync every R3D & audio file with timecode in an event.

**Please note, I purchased this software and it errored with my files. I've been too busy to prep a non-project file for them to test, so proceed with caution. It costs about $199.

I hope this helps.

Hello
you can select all your files and make a multicam clip which syncs sound as well
Then copy all the clips in the multicam and paste into a new timeline
edit from there

Just a heads up...I just sync'd, colored, and rendered Avid MXF 36 @1080p on a film with a good size budget (can't say which yet) and they used a lockit box and I can tell you, most likely your clips will be +1 -1 frame off. Make sure you pay close attention because just syncing timecode may not be enough. You may have to slip in frame or even half/quarter frame increments to get perfect sync. I'm no help in FCPX but I'm sure you can figure that out with others help.

Thanks for the help guys.

Just a bit of information how I would have hoped to work
- Do first color grade in RedcineX pass
- Do the sound sync in some way using time code
- Import into Final Cut Pro X and create proxies here
- Export to Redcine and Do color grade
- Export the whole project to ProTools for audio. There is a plugin for this but I haven't tried it yet

Since its a longer movie it has a LOT of clips in it so syncing manually would probably take a week or more.

Some possible solutions
- render ProRess files, PluralEyes can read this so would be able to sync them. However darn I don't like that I lose the connection to the Raw files then.
- try Sync n Link. I briefly tried it before and it looked very unstable so haven't tested it more
- maybe sync to the proxies in Final cut or something else clever.

Any other ideas would be most appreciated. How do you guys do to sync in other programs?

/Andreas
