Watching the new trailer confirmed my beliefs that the Spike Lee remake of this fantastic korean film looks and feels like utter garbage. Don't get me wrong, I love it when directors adapt great pieces of work ( loved David Fincher's remake on Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) but this.... come on....

I can't be the only here who thinks this... see for yourself below

I have to admit that when I see "New Oldboy Remake", I kinda chuckle because it just sounds silly. New. Old. New. It will be interesting to see what comes of it but I will only see it on home video or On Demand. I'm done with cinema movies for the most part and I don't think it will even play at any of the theatres near my home.

My personal mantra on these things is a derivation from my old uncle's opinion of alcoholic beverages. He used to run a liquor store. - "There is no such thing as bad beer, only better beer". Such it is with films.

There is too much personal investment of the time of cast, crew, directors, producers even, to just summarily dismiss any film project as rubbish. There are too many people involved for all to be just cynically grinding out a piece of factory fodder. At least one or more will be putting their heart and soul into it.

I don't much like sequels, however there are sometimes those which are faithful to the original, are even better or stand alone in their own right. One for me was "True Grit".

So I am prepared to give this one a fair chance, maybe for simple selfish reason that my own work one day should not be unfairly judged before it even comes out of the stalls.

Hard to tell with this one, but if it's anything like Red Hook Summer I'd skip it. Red Hook was a pretty bad Sundance film and had a very rough time at the festival. I hope Spike still has it since he has some studio backing this time.
