I hope I don't start this thread in the wrong topic, but I didn't find any thread like this, so...

So.. I have a Zeiss ZF.2 25mm 2.8. It has a 320 degrees focus throw. And I need some lens gear for it. But , as I checked today on the barrel of the lens, between close focus and infinity only (max!) 20 mm free space remains, so the "connecting point" of the lens gear must fit in there, in a way it doesn't disturb the wheel of the follow focus.... These are the facts.

I don't like redrock style lens gears because I want something compact and sturdy. I'm thinking of getting Lanparte gears,
http://www.lanparte.com/html/82.html
but I'm concerned about the Zeiss's long focus throw...

I have a Nikon AFD lens too, but there exactly the opposite is the case: too short focus throw. But finding gear for that is easier.

Thanks

I dont want a permanent solution....

Anybody? A lot of people seem to use Zeiss SLR lenses for shooting movies and video, and I'm pretty sure most of them use follow focuses, so evidently lens gear also...... Please recommend me something for my 320 degrees focus throw Zeiss!!!

This is not a permanent solution unless you want it to be. Any Delrin focus gear can be heated slightly to expand it for removal, although I don't know why you would want to remove the gear after having it installed.

Alright, but anyway I would be happy to hear some other recommendations as well...

you could do zip gears held by zip ties. i have similar gears, i think made by zacuto, similiar to the link you posted, they have a rubber ring inside them. i have zeiss ZE lenses. they work great. I'm debating a semi-permanant duclos lens gear, also a good option. PS do plan on cutting the excess gear length outside the little lock box.

I don't get it... Redrock micro gears are not compatible with my Zeiss ZF.2 25mm 2.8 lens (official answer from redrock), but Zacuto's are (official answer from zacuto). But for me the Zacuto's "connecting part" seems wider then the Lanparte's so I would assume that the Lanpartes would work, right?

Yes, I want to cut the excess for a better fit and better look :)

Thanks! I checked them out already, and more brands with this style. But to tell you the truth, I don't trust in this design. I can't align the gear 100%, which will put a strain on the lens mount and the follow focus as well, plus make tiny movements to the lens itself... They look durable, well made, but... I think it's a terrible design. One with fixed legs like the Cinematics or Redrock micro is far better solution, however they don't work with my Zeiss lens because of the focus throw.

Here is my 25mm.

And is it a Duclos or RP? Is it the old Contax version of my lens, right?

My biggest concern is that I don't want to ship the lens anywhere... it's a risk and a cost, and takes time. This month I have to test my setup, so I need to get a solution by that time, so basically as soon as possible...

thanks for the pic! By the way, how do you like this lens?

Focus Optics did the gear. Yes it's the Contax version, as I prefer the look over the newer ZF.

There may be a shop near you that can do the work, what city?

How would it go against the latest Zeiss 25mm f2.0?

What are you talking about?

I just happen to like the look of these Contax lenses as the lens coatings match the Zeiss super speed and standard speeds of the period.

I own older Zeiss and Cooke lenses which I find aesthetically pleasing, and I rent modern Zeiss and Cooke lenses when I find the need

I am just thinking to sell my Zeiss 21mm f2.8 and get new 25mm f2.0.
Must test it first.

If you are talking about the Zeiss Contax 21mm, let me know if you want to sell it, as I need one to replace the 20mm Flek I have at that focal length.
