Ok, I know there is not one single answer to the Quicktime Gamma Issues, and I know everyone has heard this a thousand times and the Red Forums aren't specifically the place to vent - but when looking at my screen my mind nearly just snapped.... And seeing as there are some movers and shakers in the post world who frequent here I figure maybe SOMEBODY will be able to point out the following insane contradiction to Apple and get them to fix this stuff.

So, I have a Quicktime output from AVID (using Same as Source on an Avid 1:1 timeline) that I move it over to my Mac - surprise surprise, QT Gamma shift issue crops up, blacks are grey, everything is washed out.

However - in the PREVIEW window in Finder, the TINY little screen that is part of Mac OS Leopard rather than my almighty Quicktime Pro window - the blacks are BLACK, my colours are correct!

Anyway else noticing this - that somehow, Quicktime Pro can't get right what the preview screen in Finder IS?

Also - tried converting the Quicktime file from Avid into an M2V as it was, to check if it was just a QT bug - and DVD Studio Pro preview is showing the gamma shift as baked into the quicktime (but, of course, DVDSP is using QT to preview it I imagine, so I still have no idea if I burn this file whether the shift will come out on DVD players - but I'm guessing by the time it's gone through compressor and turned to an M2V I'm stuck with the shift)

I've tried using QTGamaStripper on the PC side - and it reports that the QT has no Gamma Atom. Fantastic, maybe because Finder is displaying it correctly, and because there is no QT Atom (and both PC and Mac are QT Pro 7.5) Apple are FINALLY doing something to fix this issue - but the results just haven't filtered down into their Pro Apps yet.

Anyway - check it out, was wondering if OTHER people can see a QT Gamma shift in QT Pro that is mysteriously not there in the Finder preview window, and see if they too have to slap themselves in the forehead and go 'Gah - that's what I want, why can't you let me have it Quicktime... WHY?!!!
