I'm interested to see what people think about this. For $300 a year you get groceries, 500,000 amazon.com products and meals from a few overpriced restaurants delivered within about 12 hours.

Essentially it's the company known as Webvan from a decade ago except with the backing of Amazon.

I like this idea, interested in seeing where the food actually comes from. In Austin (and I'm sure in a few other metroplexes), we have some smaller companies delivering goods such as this, but all from local farmers. I just want to know who Amazon deals with and where the food comes from...

We use it for our office groceries. Works well. Selection is a bit limited. Safeway also does delivery in Seattle and they have a wider selection but I've never tried it out. We also have several organic subscriptions if you just want produce. They will deliver boxes with produce and ingredients along with recipes. It's definitely a market that's growing.

Interesting to see if it works. I was a big fan of WebVan back in the day and used it regularly. They were great and I loved how you could just save an order and do it regularly...it was perfect for offices. I remember reading an article about how they failed because they had to keep orders averaging at $110 and they were only averaging $103. Numbers might be off a bit, but it was crazy they were so close in average orders but failed in a huge way. So, I guess the margins are tiny in that market.

I hope Amazon can succeed. It sure is a nice convenience.
