I did a search and found nothing on this. I recently built a new computer for editing Red footage (waiting on delivery of the parts). I have some 256GB SSD's on the way to use as my boot/software drive. I'm curious if it will be enough.

If you could, please list all the software/plugins you have installed on your editing machine. I realize this is a lot to ask some people to do, but it might also benefit you to have it documented somewhere incase you ever rebuild a new one. You'll know what to add back. So assuming you just got a new SSD and need to install everything on it again, what are you putting on it? Thank you so much for any help with this.

Hey, just briefly, I run my MacBook Pro with a 128gb SSD for boot and software, and a 500gb for data. The iMac is a different story.

Patrick, How are you liking Lightworks? I'm thinking about giving it a try. Do you use their console?

I have been loving lightworks, was a fairly easy transition and more important ... i think it is helping me tell my story better by focusing on editing in a more profesional way. I have not bought the console, but have been thinking of getting the keyboard. I btw decided not to do the audio my self, so am using lightworks to do my basic audio to get my pacing right, but then outputting that to avid using aaf format ... long story short i really like how I can input into and out of lightworks to other packages. lightworks also has a real nice DI workflow and a lot of options, what i'm doing is linking everything to networked drives.

I'm thinking about moving over to Lightworks from Premiere for Hybrid Vigor. Have you tried importing a Lightworks produced AAF into Pro Tools? Does it go smoothly? I know there can be issues with Premiere.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am only outputting the audio, and then sending the video seperatly (so way less links then a full output). Also so far it has been super simple. There are also OMF and EDL options to export, I know a bunch of people use it to avid (there were some problems a bit ago, but the recommendation i received was output the audio aaf, then send a video file separately in a smaller format that will scrub quickly, and have the audio guy just join them). I will post something how it goes when i do something more complicated since I'm just getting started on outputting to the sound guys from edit.

[excuse my AVID ilok rant ... but my stupid avid ilok key is tucked away in some random box, so can't check out myself different aaf export features from lightworks ... i hate avid's use of ilok - i have been waiting 2 weeks for a avid response through the "ilok" retrieval process and haven't had time to call them during normal hours, and i'm not going to pay $130 to expedite a key using the "zero downtime coverage", when i barely get anything from a avid upgrade ... which cost me 400$ with only $200 off and that is for just a single version upgrade ... so i'm just better off buying a completely new copy of protools and getting a completely new key of which ... of course i would probably loose by the time i'd really need it ]
