  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cineo’s Trucolor HS & LS Discount Offer for REDUSERs

I think a better comparison would be the Area 48 and the TruColor LS. The HS model is double the size of the LS which is why there is a large discrepancy with the specs.

Good point Bob. I used the HS specs since those were the ones available at the time.

Update / sorted lowest to highest output:

Trucolor LS 5600K @ 10 feet produces 23fc / 3m = 248 lux
Area 48 5600K @ 10 feet produces 36fc / 3m = 386 lux
TruColor HS 5600K @ 10 feet produces 66fc / 3m = 710 lux

Trucolor LS 3200K @ 10 feet produces 19fc / 3m = 205 lux
Area 48 3200K @ 10feet produces 34fc / 3m = 361 lux
Trucolor HS 3200K @ 10 feet produces 56fc / 3m = 603 lux

Listed power consumption:
Area 48: 150W
Trucolor LS: 167W
Trucolor HS: 500W

All of the above data is from manufacturers cut sheets, not personally tested.

From a personal standpoint, I expect that I will end up owning fixtures made by both manufacturers...
IMHO, it would not make sense for anyone to back out of the Area 48 group buy - it looks like a great deal.
Would have joined myself if there was not a dragon coming right up.

Bottom line, looks like both manufacturers are bringing quality tools to the marketplace.
As I said before: exciting times!

Ketch -

All respect - and I think I have shown that. Your original group buy was supposed to end April 19th - then got extended a few times which was fantastic. It is now 6 weeks after the original deadline - I waited until the group buy was closed and then some. New Redusers could no longer participate and that to me is closed. If you're worried about people dropping after they've committed it seems like an issue to take up with them and not me. I appreciate all you do for the community. With that in mind I feel it would have been a disservice to our friends here not to give them the opportunity to see these fine lights at Cine Gear for themselves.

As for the lights. I agree with you.

These lights are really really nice. The remote phosphor tech is finally a solution I can live with for "LED"s. Very nice color rendering. A single light source that wraps beautifully - no multiple shadow issues. The ability to change color temps without compromising the output power at a minimal price. The ability to hold color through dimming...

It's exciting to see new tech - we all benefit.

To our friends at Cineo Lighting - THANKS!

Talking about color temp:
Both the Trucolor HS and LS have the ability to accept a wide range of remote phosphor panels (besides the 2 kit offerings).
So, by simply changing out the panel, you can change the color temp of the fixture.

Choices include:
2700 degrees
3200 degrees
4300 degrees
5600 degrees
6500 degrees

Plus: They offer both a Chroma Green and a Chroma Blue panel.

I am not aware of any other manufacturer that offers such a wide range of options.

Hey everybody - check out a review from our friends at FXPHD. While you're there look around and consider joining.

Check out the MacBeth charts - Trucolor HS against a tungsten source. Impressive even when dimmed.

Keep in mind the ballast has indeed been redesigned from the unit they are testing.

I was told that the fixtures were created in a way that will allow for more powerful LEDs to be swapped in as long as they are within spec of the power supply.

Anyone have any questions/comments since there is only a few days left to take advantage of this offer?

Thank you so much for organizing this, Jim! I saw those lights at Cinegear and they were really wonderful. The people were great to talk to as well.

I also really like the straightforward way you organized this with Adorama coupon, etc.

My main thought is that it's bad timing that this discount was arranged directly after the Area48 one (a similar product).

I think that a lot of people had already committed funds (me included) to the Area48 group buy. The number of people with money available to buy LED lights at any given time is not infinite.

I hope that you work with Cineo to offer this discount again at another time (perhaps when there are less other group buys going on?).

Thanks Bruce -

These lights are a great leap in LED usablilty for me. I am appreciative that the kind people at Cineo have put this together for us. I think it was important for people to have the opportunity to see these live at Cine Gear. It's good to have options. The HS and Foton are in their own class. The power and flexibilty of the HS will prove to be very valuable. I have no doubt Cineo will continue to develop and offer exciting things.

Hopefully we will get another shot at a group buy down the road if/when appropriate for those who want to add to their kits or might have missed this round.

Last day!

This offer is now closed.

Thank you so much to Trisha and Rich and our friends at Cineo for making this possible.

I know we are all looking forward to using these lights and making great images.
