As part of our ongoing 4K MADE EASY training events, we're running an ADOBE CS6 4K workflow session on Saturday, May 25th on the The Lot in West Hollywood.

Our very own, Tony Aaron II, Premiere Pro expert and proud SCARLET owner will be taking attendees through a four hour in depth discussion on how to shoot, cut, color and deliver a 4K RED project using the Adobe CS toolset.

Details of the training event are below and sign up available on the LumaForge website Event's page - we'll also have three calibrated SEIKI 50 inch UHD TVs for people to see well shot and graded RED footage in glorious 4K ... these 10 bit UHD TVs (once they've been professionally color calibrated) are a joy to behold and are the most cost-effective means of viewing RED footage in 4K (3840x2160 to be precise) at the moment.

This month's Adobe training event is focused on CS6 but next month we'll be running a similar event based around the new CS CC versions (aka CS7) of the Adobe products ... we are busy beta testing them in a real life production environment as we speak ... plenty of great new features to make your 4K lives even easier!

Any questions, let me know.

Cheers,
Neil

Wish I could be there. Adobe CS has a reputation for not being "professional" that I'm not sure is justified at this point in its evolution. IMO watching someone who knows the program well do operations common to professional editing demands is a good way to separate the genuine issues from the (often outdated) FUD. I went to the FCP-X event last month and while I can't say I fell in love with the new UI/paradigm it was obvious that Apple and 3rd parties have made professional use viable. That said, I'm looking forward to seeing it get to where professional usage in collaborative environments is another step more powerful, intuitive and integrated - but at least they're on the right track. AVID has become substantially more affordable but their lack of a 4K DNx variant makes it a fail for me, and a lot of other RedUsers I'd guess.

FWIW, if Resolve 10 ships soon, is stable and can deliver its promise of a decent MLT along with an on-set/ingest interface to go with its already developed grading/finishing capabilities it might be game over for the big "A"s. Until then...

Collaboration usually involves different facilities involved in different parts of the post process and the need to facilitate movement of materials and edit information between different platforms. That is where current incarnations of both Premiere Pro and Final Cut X fall down, and that is why both are primarily used by smaller companies and one-man, one-machine situations.

I also notice that there is not one mention of sound and its needs here (well, now there is....). Posting a project doesn't just mean making pretty pictures, you know. And never use the term "game over" unless you're Mark Pedersen and you're not concerned about the unlikeliness of that scenario or the reaction to saying it :wink5:

Hey Mike,
Interested to get some specifics on what about premiere you're finding hard to use in a collaborative space. Premiere has support for export of EDL, FCP XML, AAF and OMF. And you can import EDL, FCP XML and AAF (Mac).
Usually covers most cases I come up against (usually an export of an EDL or XML covers the grade and an OMF suits the soundguys).

Perhaps there is some other scenarios I'm not considering? Your input is appreciated as always :)

after the tutorial do the spectators "own" the knowledge you bestowed on them, or is there a "monthly subscription fee"...

Good question ... we're actually taking a different approach ... after the training session there will be a monthly test and anyone not getting 100% will be kept in detention and severely beaten ... so you better pay attention if you come along to one of our Training Days!

Seriously, the training session this month is on Adobe CS6 ... we're testing the CS CC beta as we speak and will be running a 4K CS CC session next month as soon as it's officially launched ... there's some cool features in the subscription version but if you want to stick with the current version, come along on the 25th.

In our training sessions, I often make the opening remark that now that Hollywood is part of a Moore's Law driven industry there's three important things we all have to keep up with .. Hardware, Software and Wetware ... Wetware is the stuff between your ears ... it's the most important part of your sustainable competitive advantage .... cameras will come and go ... software is but a toolkit to deliver creativity ... the thing that's going to keep you in the digital content creation game for the rest of your life is Wetware ... keep it up to date and you'll do well ... close your mind to new ideas and you'll be pushed aside by kids who are hungry, smart and ambitious ... Moore's Law is ruthless in how it shapes and drives an industry.

Your brain is your most valuable asset, use it wisely, feed it well.

Neil

Ahhhh,

Wish I could be there. Just got our first R3D, still trying to crack the mysteries of a 4K workflow. Will any of the material be available after the fact for online viewing?
