Thank you for the kind words Elsie. I might add that the ProLock from Optitek has actual iris scale that's engraved so you can monitor your stops on G lenses...The camera I use most has the Long Valley mount on it and the only issue I have is that the aperture lever is a little too free for my feel but you get used to that easy enough. The Optitek wheel has a better feel but of course, with the price differential you would expect that. As it turns out, I've only used the G lens 28-300 zoom on the main camera and a 16-35 G lens on the other and there has been no problem with either of those relatively speaking, heavy lens. On the Long Valley Mount I've even inserted a 3x extender between camera and lens with no problems.
I haven't been brave enough to hang an old 50-300 Nikkor F lens on either of them yet without support. But I'd almost bet the lens would break before any of the mounts. '-)
RED once claimed a "potential" problem as I understood it at the time, with the early Optitek Mount and Jacek said Optitek would do the modification for anyone who would send it in. I sent mine in. I'm sure if RED had any problems with any of the 3rd party mounts damaging cameras they would have made that known, but I can't recall any such statement being made, so as is often the case with RED, silence takes on the appearance of tacit acceptance.Good to know.
Now do any of these aftermarket lens mounts void the RED warranty? How can I confirm if they do or don't??
