I ran into a strange issue importing clips today.

For longer takes -- those comprised of more than one RED .r3d file -- Premiere creates a full clip for each of the .r3d files.

So, if I import a single take that spans 7 .rd3 files, Premiere creates SEVEN full-length takes in my bin (named xxxx_xxxx_xxxxx_001, xxxx_xxxx_xxxxx_002, xxxx_xxxx_xxxxx_003, etc.).

This is really annoying. I ended up having to go back and delete all the extra files from the bin/timeline -- everything except the 001 version of the files.

What am I doing wrong?

What is your procedure for importing the clips? What version of Premiere?

sounds like you are importing directly into Premiere....

make sure to use the media browser.....

r3d clips are limited to 4gb....so on long ones you may have 20 or more 4gb chunks.....

when you import into PPRo directly it treats each one separate, but recognizes they are spanned...

when you import through media browser.....it only lets you see the master spanned clip..so no duplicates

This was the issue. I was dragging and dropping directly into Premiere instead of using the Media Browser.

I did some testing and using Media Browser solved the issue.
