I want to own some HMI lighting. I love K5600 but cannot afford them.. So i am looking into CAME HMI lights. The 575 and the 1200.

Does anyone own them.. Is there a review link?

I'd love more information

Jay

I'm shooting a feature right now and am using the 1200. It's loud. Awesome light, well worth the money, but loud. Get an osram replacement globe for it and it quietens down considerably. I'll be writing a review on both that and the came steadicam (which is totally awesome) at my blog in the coming weeks :) in the mean time, I'd buy both!

Nice @ matthew

I just wanted to know if this HMI worth it so go for GROUP-BUY, now where is Carey (lol)

I also have one. Just like Mathew, the bulb it comes with has a loud annoying hum, but the Osram was night and day in comparison. Phillip also makes a bulb which apparently has a slightly higher CRI? No flicker at 24fps, I haven't tested it at higher fps.

The fan noise is a little loud, especially if you are in a room with no dampening. About as loud as a fridgerator unfortunately. I've heard people say they took the ballast and relocated it to a closet to help with the sound. I was planing on replacing the fan in there with a quieter computer fan and simply connecting it to it's own 12v power supply. I can probably get it quieter and to push more air. They use a vey cheap fan. Haven't got around to it yet, but I'll post my findings when I do.

@ Noel,
What you be interested to arrange a best (cheapest possible) Group-buy?

Kwan,

I'll try to get you Joey's contact info, I sent him a message. Joey is photolight on eBay, same guy that sells the steadycams. I probably would of arranged this group buy, but I have the light already. Maybe someone else would like to arrange it and I'll get them the contact info, unless they already have it. I'm sure a lot of us have already bought from photolight. I also have his 650W Fresnels and 4 Bank Flourecents. All great lights.

count me in on the group buy -- Cheers to our fearless leader whomever it may be :D

I've bought a 575 like that before.

The ballast blew on me after a year, and taking it apart to try to fix it was no use because everything was pretty convoluted in the insides. - I was still quite happy with it though up until that point.
Colour temps and everything else was great.

I think it blew cause it was humid and we were shooting exteriors with it.

Thanks Noel, I did contact Joey but seems like he can't do better.
May be we need to find who is originally making these units.

I honestly love my K5600. I have a Joker 400 PAR that I bought used, and it's performed like a champ. I was interested in a Cool Lights or something like that but when I found this one used I hopped on it. If you can find one used they're pretty dang great.

That being said, I'd be interested in a group buy on Cool Lights or CAME depending on the price. I've been looking at getting a Joker 800 or something to round out my kit, but a deal on something else may just push me over the edge.
