I'd love a motorized slider for timelapse. Something that can handle perhaps 15 pounds. Obviously, I'd like to spend as little as I can get away with but don't want to cheap out, either. Is there a reliable performer and good value out there?

it not cheap but you might want to check out Mark Roberts Motion Control they are the standard of the industry for features http://www.mrmoco.com

Happy with my Ditogear. Used to do time-lapse (move-shoot-move) with multiple dslr. And smooth video with Scarlet and Epic (33 pounds vertically. Much more horizontally). Only downside it is a bit narrower than you'd like (can't really put hi-hat, bowl, head and Red on top. Only small Manfrotto head + Scarlet) and heavy if you're alone (30 pounds). Needs 2 tripods (usually one can be cheap and light).
If I were in the USA, probably I'd choose Kessler cineslider with controller
