Hey guys,

Was wondering if someone else has had this issue. On one of my test footage, the R3D files are playing back, but the proxies dont have any content. The files play back but there's no video. Is there something in the settings to 'activate' this? I've already tick marked the box for the proxies. Any help will be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Niraj

I assume you are shooting on an R1 and getting the proxies from the camera files? If so, you should be aware that proxy files are only pointers to the media. Thus, you are correct, they contain no media content of their own.

Hey Terry,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I'm shooting on a BT R1 MX. However, I've seen tutorials where the QT proxies files have the actual content shot. How is that possible? And I didn't understand the pointers to the media bit. If you have some time, would you be kind enough to elaborate a little further? Thanks once again for your time. Appreciate your help. :)

Regards,
Niraj

The proxies need the original .r3d files there also. The proxies only serve as wrappers that playback the .r3d in a lower resolution.

You need to keep the QT proxies together with the original .R3Ds in order to playback.

Hi Brent,

The QT proxies are already in the same .r3d folder but they're still playing back nothing. I"m gonna do some test footage today and check it out whether I'm still having this issue. Thanks for your reply though.

Cheers,
Niraj

If you are getting a black screen it sounds like it's a codec issue. I note from another thread you are running a Power PC G5 - if I recall all QT codecs for Red are intel mac only (I reluctantly sold a G5 in 2007 when I got my first R1).

If that's the case your only option is to transcode R3D out of redcine X for edit/preview.

Thanks guys. I'll try out some of the options mentioned.

Cheers,
Niraj
