  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A SHORT MODERN WESTERN, SHOT ON RED, OF COURSE

No, no HDRX - I have never found I need it, simply exposing and lighting the scene correctly even in natural light, I am always able to get a balanced frame with EPIC if sometimes that means a bit more work in post than usual. I shoot Alexa on TVC's more often that EPIC, but for my own work, especially in natural light, would much rather shoot RED for these reasons.

As for the lack of moving camera - I was experimenting with how LITTLE I could do overall - dialogue? Nah, we could skip that. Minimized the # of edits as far as possible, no cutaways, only masters. No rhythm in the score to avoid using that cheat for pacing. No moving camera. We ended up moving in the last shot after much debate. I really wanted to see just how little we could do, how spare could the language of cinema be, before it stops working. Its on the edge for sure.

Thanks Mark. Quite a honor coming from you, have admired your work and style for quite some time in the commercial world. If you ever need a DP or 2nd unit DP, with am emphasis on active lifestyle, natural light and an ephemeral feel - please keep my reel handy....https://vimeo.com/59457971

Nicely done Anson,

Loved the pace, the light and framing. I understand the questioning about the travelling... ;-)

I find there is too much music but your film is a great piece of art.

Thanks

Patrick

Beautiful, but restrained cinematography. If Tarkovsky had made a Western, it might have looked like this.

Bravo!

I love this.

This kind of film making is much more difficult to work than people might think. Although some edits did seem too long and therefore taking my attention away from the story, I thought that this is what short film should be, brave, cinematic and creative.

None of that handheld, short dof or long lens crap...

This is it. A frame with balls!

Thanks so much Antonio!
