I gotta ask this forum since so many of you have probably lived life longer than me, as a young guy getting into the film industry, does anyone still keep in touch with their buddies in college? Doesn't have to be only film friends either.

Have a read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunbar's_number

There's only a handful of people I still talk to from High school. A smaller amount that I still talk to from college (yeah, I know that seems backwards). I'm 27. I've made a good amount of professional type contacts in the past few years. Some of them I'd call friends. But there's only so many people our brains can keep track of to any extensive degree. As new people fade up, some have to fade to black. I wouldn't get upset about it. And if they were ever truly friends, you can call them after 3 years (or more) without a word and pick up right where you left off.

Yes
Facebook and or social Media.

Because they were with you the whole time.

This.

With some people, sometimes time is irrelevant. It's never always and if feels like you were never apart. I just reconnected with a friend I haven't spoken to in 15 years, and we didn't skip a beat. Great feeling.

a couple of lines of dialogue from the big chill...

Sam: Hey, Nick? You know, we go back a long way, and I'm not gonna piss that away 'cause you're higher than a kite.
Nick: Wrong, a long time ago we knew each other for a short period of time; you don't know anything about me. It was easy back then. No one had a cushier berth than we did. It's not surprising our friendship could survive that. It's only out there in the real world that it gets tough.

I don't keep regular contact with anybody I met in HS or college. To me those are situations where you are forced to acquaint with people more because of proximity and than common interest or goals. I am the type of person who can count my friends on two hands and I don't confuse acquaintances, of which I have many, with friends. My friends would do anything for me just as I would for them and that's comforting.

The interesting thing about reconnecting with old acquaintances through FB is it quickly became obvious why I didn't keep up with them back in the day.
