Hello everyone.

In an attempt to help those of you who are on tight budgets, and do not have big production companies backing your work, I submit the following:

For a couple of years now I have been buying Hudzee Internal Hard Drive Storage Cases to store our filled hard drives. I finally got sick and tired of paying that exorbitant, ridiculous price of $7.50/ea (including shipping), for a "plastic box" made in China.

After doing some extensive research, I would like to give you two options for MUCH better priced cases (also made in China). Both work just fine, and also leave enough room to enable you to seal the drive in its anti-static silver plastic bag, "and" a typed paper sheet of the contents. And, the cost "includes" shipping.

Check them out here:

Clear Top-Lid HD Cases:

@ $2.21/ea.

HudZee-Type HD Cases:

@ $3.18/ea.

I think you will agree, those are MUCH better prices.

You're welcome. ;)

the two ebay sellers listed have had some shipping issues. Have you bought from them and did you receive items in timely manner? I'm all for cheaper prices as long as items are delivered on time and as expected.

No Steve, I have not. I have bought the top-lid types
As I'm sure you are well aware, EVERYTHING coming from China is super, super slow. The only secret to that, is to order them waaaaaaaaaay ahead of time.

I think they tie the products onto the back of Sea Turtles and let them carry the items across the sea. Or, more possible, they put the items on little toy wood plank boats with little paper sails, and let those sail it across. ;)

Either way it's slow.

you folks are using these for the RED SSDs?

do any have foam lining?

So really depends how quickly you need these. I suppose if you have no immediate need it probably doesn't matter when they get there. If you need definitive shipping parameters, then the more expensive options are probably better.

I have a ton of the "carbon fiber" looking cases that Steve linked to, I get them off Amazon usually. I don't want my archival hard drives sitting in untested Chinese "anti-shock" cases.

Good point Zac.

Do you feel it really makes any difference if they're stored in a cool, dry, safe place?

No, no Eric!

These cases are for placing the external hard drives in that your Red footage is stored on, before and after it is edited, via the computer the footage is transferred to from either Red Drives, Red CF Cards, or SSD Cards.

I use docking stations for storing ALL shots and BEST shots in the drives. After they're full, I place them in cases and store them off-sight. And, all the best, best shots are in the RAID Array.

Here's a paradigm shift for ya': instead of buying HDDs in oversized packaging destined for a landfill, perhaps we could order six packs of hard drives already in Hudzee type cases with just one slightly larger shipping box that had fold out handles for easy transport?

Cheers - #19

Another good idea. But, the kinds of hard drives I use don't come in Hudzee cases.

And, with a case costing that much, why would they almost EVER end up in a land fill. They could be used over and over and over again, and even sold.
