  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So I'm torn on which Hot Mirror ND's I really need to buy. I generally try and shoot at 800 ISO if possible and want to have my bases covered for all instances, but also don't want to invest in Hot Mirror ND's I don't need (the Hot Mirror part specifically). Trying to discern what combo of Hot Mirror ND's and standard ND's make the most sense.

A Hot Mirror ND 1.2 seems like a no brainer, can anyone comment on whether they'd consider a HM/ND 0.9 or even a 0.6 to be needed to combat IR pollution? I guess I don't precisely know where the threshold is (in terms of light intensity) that IR pollution becomes a concern.

You should check out Ryan Walters blog about this specific issue. He's got lots of detailed info.

Schneider work fine until IRN 1.5 - at 1.8 no. It is very easy to grade out the added green from Schneider in post.

It has nothing to do with ISO and everything to do with the level of ND used, and how hot in physical temperature your scene is.

Ah yes, thank you Robert, the ISO is irrelevant while the amount of heat reaching the sensor is what's important.
